COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Well, sure, the Cold War might be over, but you can’t be certain, can you? You’ve got brewers putting all sorts of crazy things into your beer – do you ever really know where they came from, or why they’re even there in the first place?
You need a beer you can trust, and that’s why we make Purity of Essence. It’s an overstuffed blend of the best malts, fresh Noble hops, yeast, and water, brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot – the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 – but you won’t find anything like this in the Old Country. Vienna and Munich malts add just a bit of color and malty firmness to balance the intense hoppy flavors and aromas that make this brew distinctly American.

Malts: German Pilsner, Vienna, Cara-Munich, and Wheat malts
Hops: German Perle, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker
Available in 22 ounce bottles and in kegs.

NOTE: ABV is stated as 6.5% on the bottle but 5.4% on the website. The former appears to be correct.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2012 Bottle. Pours cloudy orange with off white head. Nose/taste of cracker, biscuit malts, honey and light hops and fruit. Medium body. Clean and crisp. Definitely in the top 5-10 lagers I’ve had in my life.

22oz. Very basic clean crisp lager, some off putting flavors from the malts that I didn’t quite agree with. Almost a little metallic in flavor. Appearance is basic, aromas are non-existent, but I’ve had worse.

Bomber. Hazy pale orange with a nice white head. Mild fruit, grains, mild hops, light spice. Nice carbonation - quite bubbly, average body, starts a little sweet but becomes dry and slightly bitter on the finish. Leave a bit of a soapy off taste at the end - not well balanced yet still not bad.

On tap at Beer Temple. Golden body with thick head. Nose of hops and citrus. Taste is nice and crips. Really cool pilsener really with lots of IPA traits. Nice and bitter finish.

PotjeBier (3211) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - AUG 6, 2011
On tap @ Beer Temple. Pale blonde color, hazy. White rocky head. Aroma is refreshing, grainy/grassy, fruity, mildly sweet. Fairly neutral flavor ever so slightly sour. The finish saves this beer: nice and bitter

Cask at GBBF 2010. An unclear golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has strong notes of fruits - mostly peaches and lemons. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and grapefruits, leading to a dry and bitter finish.

Light and clean nose with just a hint of cracker malt. Taste is light and fairly dry, some crisp malt, like biscuit, a touch of honey. Finish is a tad watery. Solid.
