COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Well, sure, the Cold War might be over, but you can’t be certain, can you? You’ve got brewers putting all sorts of crazy things into your beer – do you ever really know where they came from, or why they’re even there in the first place?
You need a beer you can trust, and that’s why we make Purity of Essence. It’s an overstuffed blend of the best malts, fresh Noble hops, yeast, and water, brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot – the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516 – but you won’t find anything like this in the Old Country. Vienna and Munich malts add just a bit of color and malty firmness to balance the intense hoppy flavors and aromas that make this brew distinctly American.

Malts: German Pilsner, Vienna, Cara-Munich, and Wheat malts
Hops: German Perle, Tettnang, and Hersbrucker
Available in 22 ounce bottles and in kegs.

NOTE: ABV is stated as 6.5% on the bottle but 5.4% on the website. The former appears to be correct.

Cask Stillage at the GBBF, Earl’s Court 05/08/2010 Very pale malt aroma. Amber coloured a little hazy in appearance and smooth on the palate with a hint of bitterness in a lasting malt finish.

11/3/10. Cloudy orange pour with a fluffy white head. This aroma can be described as... bitter... with sour cat pee, corn, etc. Bitter corny flavor with hints of metal. Meh.

Tampa, Fl. - Whole Foods - 22 oz bomber - murky, dark golden pour with a nice sticky white head that leaves plenty of lacing - marked down a notch due to the overpowering head that would not go down. Pungent aroma with plenty of grassy goodness and some white grape frutiness. Crisp lager flavor with some mintiness, melon-like fruitiness and a touch of pepper. Full, crisp mouthfeel - great for a lager.

My bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus & tupalev. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with lots of tiny sediment and an average size diminishing creamy white head. Aroma’s pretty decent, toasty and nice and hoppy. Flavour’s simple and delivers what it says, a hopped up Lager, also a little fruity and with a good bitter finish. Average bodied. I quite enjoyed this -- solid stuff!

Bottle. Peachy and tropical hop aroma. Cloudy amber, creamy lacing off-white head. Good chewyness, light sparkly. Light yeasty breadyness, main focus on grassy and tropical hops. Light soapy finish, but otherwise quite nice.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2009 Bottle (22oz). Shared by blankboy with me, garthicus, GregClow and tupalev. Hazy amber, average off-white head. Funky-bitter, acidic aroma, underlying sweetness - pretty decent, actually. The taste is also very acidic, a hint of cherry ... and celery. Pretty average mouthfeel, lively, bitter in the finish, maybe a hint of lemon zest. Pretty solid stuff!

[Draft @ The Draft] Poured a hazy golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, toasted dough, citrus fruits, toffee, and light pine. Taste was dry, yeasty, citrus fruits, toffee, grapefruit, and light metal, and finishing with a bit of alcohol.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 10/17/10
Bottled on Date: 9/9/09

Aroma: The nose has some earth, spice, yeast, a bit of fruit, grass, and herbs
Appearance: It pours a giant gusher: Once I’m able to slow that down, this beer is cloudy, it has kind of a burnt orange color and a huge, fluffy, off-white head leaving lots of lace on the glass
Flavor: The flavor is alright, some malts, dry, earthy notes, and a somewhat herbal aftertaste
Palate: Light-medium bodied, the carbonation is rather high to the point that it minimizes the drinkability
Overall Impression: This is my first rating for High & Mighty. No, not a gusher! There is wasted beer everywhere... Well, lets not hold that against this one. Anyway, this stuff isn’t particularly impressive. It isn’t bad, but that flavor isn’t something I’d rush back for anytime soon, and the drinkability isn’t that high either. Decent, may have been better if it was closer to the bottled on date, but I can’t say for sure.
