Sham (1844) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 18, 2007
Dark mahogany that is opaque but for the edges. Tannish and foamy head accompanied by sheets of lace on the sides of the glass. Bourbon and oak at first then it leads to a sort of Irish creme aroma. The flavor is a little heavy on the oak side, but has a pleasing vanilla quality. Very creamy mouthfeel with a liquor filled finish.

Had a taster at the Brewhouse in Whistler. This is stout is very special. You like it or you don’t. Extremely.

Enniskillen (2055) - Bakersfield, California, USA - SEP 7, 2008
Black with a tan head. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel. Taste is far too bourbony, with a chocolate, and malty sweetness.

Crit (4011) - Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 20, 2008
Black, with lasting tan head.Sweet roasty nose, noticeable vanilla. Boozy palate, whisky like, vanilla, all nicely blended. Very sweet and complex Medium alcohol finish

3.2
BarleyMowat (17) - British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 19, 2008
Pours a deep, soulless inky black. Nose gives hints of dill. On tasting, the attack is very sweet, but quickly yields to strong bourbon overtones. The very high ABV is effectively masked by the bourbon oaking. This is a beer that pops up interesting flavours well into the pint, mostly due to the bourbon oaking.

tiggmtl (4545) - East York, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 23, 2008
Full thick rich cocoa blends nicely with pronounced bourbon in the nose. Opaque brown - almost black body is topped by a low tan-brown head that recedes to ring with some patchy lacing. Charred sensation from the strong dark malts, raisins, caramel, bourbon, vanilla and cocoa flavours all blended together with a splash of alcohol. Thick rich and full-bodied in the mouth but lightly effervescent carbonation offsets the stickiness. Sampled on cask at Dix X-mas extreme beer festival (Dec-07).

CapFlu (5127) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 25, 2007
(Draught) Sampled at Dix X-mas Xtreme Caskival 2007. Pours a thin, dissipated brown head with a near opaque body of red-brown. Nose of strong soya sauce, moss . Its thick and chewy yet misses the marks because of lacking complexity.

Beershine (5224) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 17, 2007
UPDATED: MAR 25, 2010 Sampled at Caskival 2007. Pours opaque brown-black with little to no head. Nose is some resin, vinous, with mellow bourbon alcohol notes. Smooth body, low carbonation. Up front bourbon flavors and finishes impressively clean with a friendly alcoholic punch.8-3-8-3-14

re-rate from specially procured bottle 2010. Black with scant tan head. Nice inky, bourbon, and vanilla aromas. Not so much wood. Smooth palate. Excellent tobacco flavors mingle with wood. Great nuance. Bourbon and smoke. What’s not to like? I want more. 7-4-8-5-15

Oakes (17685) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 16, 2007
Very dark brown. Aroma is chocolatey with a splash of smooth vanilla. Nice balance on this one. Chocolatey, fudgey impy notes and a nice subtle vanilla/bourbon character.
