3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Quality brew. Has sweet malts and crisp bite that leaves a nice taste on the tongue.
"Not as bready and a little Sweeter and more carbonated tha your Traditional doppelbovk, but the dark fruit and Toffee really came together nicely as it warmed. Good but not great." daleharshman (1065) - Escondido, California, USA - JAN 3, 2014
Bomber purchased 1.5 years ago at the Escondido BevMo ($6.99). Pours an interesting brown/red hue (like dark iced tea) but with only a half finger of beige foam. AROMA of toffee, spice, holiday fruitcake, molasses, raisins, and hints of vanilla. FLAVOR of quite nutty toasted malts, smooth caramel, some dark fruit (cherry and plum), and dark bread. Low to moderate sweetness. Medium bodied with well-concealed alcohol, making this easily drinkable. Interesting choice for a first anniversary beer, but one that I really enjoyed. In short: A very nice toasted nutty caramelized copper beer. Surprisingly easy to drink.ICEatALAMO (1350) - Troy, Michigan, USA - APR 30, 2013
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed a few months after receiving it from oakbluff, although I suspect the bottle is many months old. Thanks a lot Scott.
The look: Clear red-ish copper body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is has an inviting toasted character with toasted cashews, caramel, peanut shells, earth, a bit of vanilla. In mouth the beer is full body, a bit oily, generous carbonation, pleasant mouthfeel. Taste is pretty impressive. A sensation of fresh crusty brown bread flavor. A toffee-caramel that feels rich but somehow not sweet. Delicious toasted cashews, and not the cheap kind. Some leafy hops bordering tobacco territory. A handful of pecans. Pleasant earthy fruity notes. Something very “terroir” about the whole thing, a sensation of drinking a fresh beer that just grew from the ground. Sorry Gillette but I’m more and more certain craft beer is the best a man can get.
Bottle. The pour is a nice hazy dark brown. The aroma is full of malt, very nice german smell. The taste is full bodied and very smooth at the same time. Some strong yeast taste, but good. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Bottle - Pours dark amber with a thin foamy tan head. Nose is dark fruit--plums and raisins--with a sweet, bready malt base. Honey, a doughy yeastiness, and some tropical fruit linger in the background. No hops to speak of, though this seems to be nearly a year old so that’s no surprise (once again, thanks Total Wine for the old bottles!). Taste is about the same. Tons of lightly toasted dark bread malt, doughy yeast, and a nice mellow dark fruitiness. A long, sweet finish, with honey and nutty roast. Well-carbonated medium body. I would have loved to try this fresh, but what remains is a malty sweet treat that is still pretty enjoyable.

Bomber poured a clear amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of toasted malt, carmel, fruittiness and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, fruittiness, toasted malt and light earthiness with a smooth lingering fruity finish. beersearcher (2382) - Glendale, California, USA - JAN 4, 2013
An offbeat choice for an anniversary beer that I much appreciate. Good to see more of this secret style. Pours a cola color. Nice lacing on the glass. Sweet taste. Raisin and plum notes. Very smooth. hopscotch (11161) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 31, 2012
Bottle... Pours clear and copper with a small, short-lived, fizzy, white head. The aromatic highlights are caramel and toasted malts with a smidge of vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor offers sweet notes of tea biscuit, caramel, tawny port and toasted malts. Finishes bittersweet and minerally. Bomber from BevMo. Crystal clear deep ruby color. Slightly sweet nose of some dark fruit. Rich and malty with some fig and plum up front. A little breadiness. Some roasted malt in the finish, along with a little bit of a grassy hop bitterness. doublebock (558) - California, USA - OCT 30, 2012
Auburn brown with white head. Malty bready aroma with toffee. Creamy body with burnt caramel, tootsie roll and a rich doublebock like nutty maltiness.
