There is a robust dark molasses flavor that leaves an alcoholic tingle on the tongue.There is a very bitter anise-like finish. 22oz bomber picked up at Perry’s in Livermore over a year ago. It pours with a dark mahogany body that supports a dark tan head of foam. The aroma is full up bourbon booze and vanilla as well as just a touch of spicy oak in the background. The taste has sweet malt soaked raisins and prunes and a bit of caramel. It quickly pulls up smooth sweet bourbon thinly ringed by vanilla and ends a little on the dry side. Aroma has ripe fruits, American hops, woody notes and vanilla. Flavour has hops, gooseberry bushm fruits, resin and somewhat harsh malt. Barley wine in American way. This one has sometihng common with Cuvee de Tomme – but this is not that intensive. Good stuff anyway.
On tap. Pours with a lightly murky, deep brown hued body with a receding tan hued head. Any attempt at lace is batted down by alcohol legs. Aromas are of bourbon, molasses, marzipan, brown sugar, vanillin, barrel, dates, oak, leather and mild oxidation. The bourbon character is a bit on the brash side of things (bourbon quality wise). Kola and kirsch. Flavors are of leather, brown sugar, toffee, chewy, caramel, bitter. Lots of oak tannin and vanilla. Medium alcohol warmth, low carbonation with lots of bitter tannins in the finish.

Pours a dark amber brown colour with a white head. Aroma of caramel malts, toasted nuts and dark chocolate. Flavour of strong bitter floral hops, dark chocolate, toasted nuts, grass, caramel, grapefruit and syrup. Full bodied, thick mouthfeel and a sweet, malty, strong bitter finish. Enjoyable.

Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma of sweet syrupy malts, toffee, caramel and sugar. Taste is sweet and sticky with notes of syrupy malts, toffee and caramel. Finish is stingy and sticky with hops, warming alcohol, syrupy malts and caramel. Too sweet for my taste.
Bottle:   Super dark caramel, thin frothy tannish head, little lacing.   Malty nose, sweet, some toffee or caramel notes, slightly green.   Not as malty nor as sweet on the tongue.   Slight astringency, but not strong.   Feels like an English style Barley Wine, but one that isn’t too big or heavy.   Hard to believe this is 10.5% ABV.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   This one really needs to be thicker and heavier, and a bit more biscuit.   It finishes like a watery English style Barley Wine, some caramel/toffee like malt sweetness, little on the side of hop bitterness.   Hides its ABV well, but needs more body. joeneugs (6371) - Livermore, California, USA - FEB 6, 2012
On draft at Tap 25. It pours brownish orange with a small off white head. The aroma has loads of caramel and toffee with a bit of hard cherry candy and maple syrup. Amazing. On tap. Clear dark brown with a fizzy white head. Rose and earthy caramel aroma and taste with cereal grain notes. Not bad.
