Proud to be the 1st rate on this. Pours deep brown with a tan ring for a head. Nose is subtle and smooth, with toffee, caramel, dried fruit and bourbon? Flavorful and sweet with the same influences as the nose, with the addition of hops and minus what seemed to be bourbon. Extremely full mouthfeel with a little bit of heat and a dry hop finish. ngeunit1 (1555) - Waltham, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 1, 2012
A - Pours a dark brown color with a finger of frothy khaki colored head. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some light lace.
S - Aroma is full of rich sweet caramel malts, with some brown sugar, vanilla, oak, dark fruit, licorice, and just a hint of booze.
T - Starts off with some rich sweet caramel malts with some dark fruit, brown sugar, vanilla, and a bit of black licorice. Through the middle, some oak comes through alongside some stronger dark fruits and a bit of molasses. The finish is a mix of sweet caramelized malts, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, dark fruit, and a bit of booze.
M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a syrupy, warming, and sweet finish.
D - Very drinkable. Really nice malty English barleywine. The sweet caramelized flavor balance really nicely with the barrel flavors. timfoolery (1126) - California, USA - MAR 6, 2012
Taster at DBS. Aroma was of bourbon and bittering hops. Flavor is bourbon, bitter hop, toffee, and caramel. I liked this taster better here than at Beer Rev. Very good beer.

22oz bottle, same label as the Buffalo Trace version, but labeled as the 2011 barrel aged edition. yet another amazing extra from deftim13. thanks a ton, Tim! pours a hazy, russet brown capped by a rich, smooth, beige head that leaves rings of drippy lace. aroma is oustanding, bold and boozy, with heavy notes of woody bourbon, vanilla, spices, and sweet toffee backed by subtle notes of coconut cake, floral hops, dark berries, and raisins. flavor is delicious as well with sweet toffee, brown sugar, pecan pie filling, and citrus rinds up front backed by rich dark fruits, vanilla, toast, and rich, warming bourbon. palate is full bodied, lightly carbonated, and has just enough balance of sweetness and booziness to keep it from being cloying. overall, a very pleasant surprise and great barrel aged barleywine. Bottle to glass. Pours a murky nut brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is big, boozy, malty. Flavor brings out much more of the bourbon barrel character, vanilla, oak, malts. Medium to heavy body with a lingering vanilla, bourbon. Delicious. mrmartin (780) - New York, New York, USA - FEB 15, 2013

Bottle pours medium brown with light brown head, nice lacing. Aroma sweet caramel with pine hops. Initial taste of sweet caramel /toffee, a little bourbon with a bitter oak and resinous hop finish. Have to say I didn’t enjoy the finish at all, an unpleasant aftertaste.. Nice thick palate, soft carbonation. rayOfBeer (674) - El Cerrito, California, USA - MAY 26, 2012
Bottle vintage 2011: brown pour with small off-white creamy head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, vanilla, some roasted grain and a light coconut note. Flavor is creamy caramel, vanilla, light touch of molasses, mild bourbon and oak notes, and a hint of toasted grain. Palate is silky and mostly sweet with a boozy prescence but not harsh. Ends with a touch of bitter to the sweet. Wow, nice beer, rather expensive at $14. A great sipper with lots of elements to take in, and, changes as the beer warms. I will buy more if the budget allows.
