Dark brown with a decent-sized off-white head. Scent is slightly hoppy with some sugar. Nice mouthfeel. Tastes of sugars and caramel with a hint of smoke. Dry finish. pivnizub (10811) - Bochum, Porř, GERMANY - JUN 16, 2007
Bottle: Dark ruby coloured, small off-white foamy layer, sweet dark-malt, port-wine and ashes in the nose; bitter-sweet, a bit alcoholic flavour; malty, roasted-malty, a bit vinous, slightly bitter finish. Pleasant stuff....... berkshirejohn (6655) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 12, 2007
500ml bottle from Tesco. Ruby chestnut body with a coffee coloured head leaving good lacing;citrus, malt, and honey on the nose; smooth and full bodied, some banana, and chocolate but also burnt cinder toffee. To me the burnt sugar is the dominating flavour, leaving a dry bitter finish. HogcliffeLenny (162) - Christchurch, Dorset, ENGLAND - JUN 11, 2007
Bottle. Aroma of citrus fruits and malt. Pours a dark ruby colour with a tan head. Flavours surfacing are citrus fruits, dark chocolate, malt and hops. The alcohol is not overpowering. A complex palate - to be consumed slowly to allow the rich flavours to come through. A good ale.

Bottle from Tesco. Rich fruity aroma, pours a deep dark reddish brown with creamy beige head and good lacing. Flavours of banana, honey, liquorice, rich chewy malt. Smooth, warming mouthfeel, long finish with spicy hop and roasted malt tang. Great beer.

Bottle from Tescos. The commercial description above is very accurate. Quite a massive flavour for a 6.5% beer, packing way more than might be expected from a Belgian beer of this strength. This is really a truimph, trumping Old Peculier (in my opinion) as the best bottled old ale to be widely available. davegore (223) - liverpool, Merseyside, ENGLAND - MAR 24, 2007
bottle from tesco, poured almost black in colour, no head on the first pour strangely enough but a white head on the second. strong aroma of malt and toffee followed by a good dose of chocolate and caramel coffee, serious stuff, an excellent beer and quite surprised too jaid6 (26) - Ohio, USA - FEB 8, 2007
