Had on tap at SAMs in Durham NC. Pours a very dark reddish/brown with a reddish-white head. The bourbon aroma hits you very hard with this one. It’s really overpowering. The taste is pretty much what you would expect with that aroma, just a very strong bourbon taste. You get very very small hints of spices and vanilla with the aftertaste. But overall the bourbon takes over this beer. I’m a huge fan of the regular Cold Mountain and I really believe the bourbon barrel aging ruins this beer. In my honest opinion. Tap at SAMs. Cloudy reddish brown with a thin yellow whie head. Nose shows some light oak, sweet bourbon, caramel, brown sugar--the barrel kind of takes over the base beer--at least in the nose but it’s not super over the top bourbon. Flavor is similar--lots of bourbon sweetness upfront, some lighter spicey winter warmer type notes. Pretty well balanced--but I’m not sure this barrel does anything to improve this beer.
