Highland Clawhammer Oktoberfest is not the best in style, but it is not bad for a sessionable seasonal. Light malty aroma with light sweetness rising from an orange translucent pour with a head that fades too quickly. Taste is well balanced and not real bold with a light sweetness, malt notes and little spice. Clawhammer is a session beer that goes well with food, but not real special sample of the season. bottle, from Cary Whole Foods. Good aroma, Sweet, minor sour streak. Corn, wet autumn leaves, caramel/toffee, grass. Clean brownish orange, small head, faded quickly to nothing. Bitter sweet flavor, like aroma, minus the corn. Lite body, thin smooth mouthfeel, bitter sweet finish. Seems to hit all the classic points of it’s style. 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Cary, NC. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin creamy white head. Poor head retention and decent lacing. Aroma of lightly toasted malts, nuts, caramel and faint apricot and other fruits. Taste is lightly toasted grain, floral and fruity notes including notes of plum and peach, some nutty notes and a leafy hoppiness. Medium bodied.

Poured from the tap to a bright reddish orange with thin off white head and slight lacing throughout the glass. Aroma was a faint fruity (orange and apples) with a backdrop of spices and cookie dough. Mouthfeel was medium bodied nd slightly tingly, and the flavor brought out more of the doguh and spicy fruits. Finish slightly spicy and refreshing.

Bottled. Poured medium golden with a moderate cap of white head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty caramel and some medium-skinned fruits.. sweet overall with a nice earthy touch on the back of the nose. The flavor found lightly-toasted caramel and pale malt topped by light earth and grainy bitterness.. dry finish.. decent balance. Bottle. Pours a copper-straw color with a medium off-white head. Flavor is quite good. Good, spiced malts dominate with hints of toasty caramel. Very good for the style, but I’ve always been partial to Highland.
