The aroma is very sweet and syrupy with both chocolate and maple. There is also spices, caramel, and vanilla. The appearance is deep amber with a three finger head. The flavor is like the aroma. There are a lot of good tastes going on but I must admit they come in stages and not always complimentary. The palate is smooth and the finish bitter. Overall a very unique winter beer.

Bottle that I shared at the Free the Hops monthly chapter meeting in Huntsville. Poured ruby with an off-white head that left good lace. Aromas of sweet malts, light fruit in the background and vanilla. The flavor found fruit (mainly cherries), milk chocolate, vanilla and spice. Medium body, dry, but sweet. Nice!

Bottle pours clear red color with off white head. Aroma has caramel malt and subtle spices. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is more subtle malt and spice. Just an average brew.

at first sip it brings a vast assortment of dark flavor with lots of hazelnut, maple syrup and caramel. it sort of drags out at the end. still beer goes all the way with a bit of astringent at the finish.

clear brown/copper with small head. notes of vanilla, toffee, caramel. flavor is has very english/scottish ale characteristics. smooth toffee and caramel malt flavors, with the perfect amount of piney hops at the finish to balance it out.

on tap at redlight redlight, pours hazy light brown with a medium off white head. Oaky aroma with some biscuit and bready notes. Flavor is nice and malty with some light cocoa and vanilla. Very nice Chirstmas beer.

Draft at redlight redlight. Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Lots of nutmeg in the nose. Hints of cinnamon. Nice warm, wintry, coffee-cake aroma. The flavor exhibits these notes fairly well although a lot of malt comes through and covers some of the subtler layers. All said and done, it hits the spot on a cold winter night.

Pailhead (6539) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - JAN 10, 2006
Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Aroma of caramel, vanilla. roasted nuts, fruit, and light spices. Pours a dark transparent copper with a small soapy head that quickly fades to a ring. Quick nuttiness and caramel up front is quickly covered up by a vanilla, milk chocolate, butterscotch, and slight ginger finish. Pretty tastey, but probably couldnt drink more than 12oz or so without it wearing on me.

Bottle. Dark rudy brown pour. Smelled like cola - sweet malty and some prunish fruits and spices. Sweeter malty flavors, medium fruits, and a fair bit of spice for flavors. A touch of clove too.
