1/26/14. Bomber bottled 11/13. Poured dark copper with a one finger head that disapated in about 15. Mild spicy nose with hints of malt and hop. Thin mouth with a nice spicy mix. A different spice profile than most winter ales.

Nice bottle with waxed flip-top. Medium brown. Mild aroma. Flavor is malr up front with apples and nutmeg in the somewhat sweet finish. HighGravity (926) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JAN 5, 2006
(2005/2006 Version) The nose is very fruity; perhaps cherries were used to make this beer. The palate is full of chocolate, spice, and cherry notes. It’s like a wassail without being overwhelmed with spice. I did not think that I would like this beer, but it is interesting. Nice winter ale. 1FastSTi (3358) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 26, 2006
Pours to a glowing brassy body with a thin tan head. The aroma is spicy hops and strawberry perfume. The flavor is bitter strawberry perfumey hops. Fruitcake. The palate is average.

Deep amber color with a average-sized, lasting, cream-colored head. I picked up a strong malty/sweet aroma that overpowered some of the winter spices I was hoping to smell. The spices came through a bit more at first taste, but give way quickly to smooth toffee/caramel flavor. A bit lighter and milder than other winter ales I’ve had. On tap at the Mello Mushroom in Wrightsville Beach, NC. Appears dark ruby with no or little foam. Aroma reminds me of vanilla soda, hops and malts. Flavor was sugary, like root beer. Very smooth, another great beer from NC brewery. bgburdman9 (861) - columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 4, 2007
Bonus from captaincougar. Aroma and sweet maltiness with some spices. Flavor was a little weird with some butterscoth maybe. A little werid on the palate. Had some vanilla. MartinT (10155) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 6, 2007
My Bottom Line:Naven (1001) - Poway, California, USA - DEC 4, 2007
Caramel and vanilla cookies cherish the cherries, delicate roastiness and dessert spiciness which garnish them. This is a valiant spicy ale for sweet teeth.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the clear burgundy.
-Spicy, herbal hoppiness finishes alongside clovey amusement.
-The chosen spices are well integrated.
-Even though it’s on the sweet side of things, it remains a fine winter warmer to accompany a meal.
Got this big ’ol bottle from Jimbowood sometime last year, I believe. Ever been inside the tinderbox? It’s a cigar shop that is found in malls throughout the country. Well, this stuff smells just like the inside of a tinderbox. Vanilla, malt and tobacco are on the nose, and the flavor tastes like a sweet vanilla cigar. Weird, but pretty good. I guess it’s fitting that a beer from North Carolina tastes like tobacco.
