Cask; Regular. Also available bottled.

Appearance: Dark chocolate brown in the glass with a good white head, if held to a light very dark ruby red shines through.
Nose: Soft chocolate malt ‘coffee’ notes are evident with a mere hint of hop.
Taste: All depends on venting, when fresh the chocolate malt is crisp and may have a hint of phenols, when well vented or halfway through a cask, the chocolate is soft & velvety with a perfectly balanced hop and a hint of fruity fermentation esters. Becomes dryer and ever so slightly hoppier as becomes older.
Summary: A fantastic darker ale which has a changing drinking profile, which at all the stages of it’s development in cask should appeal to all who appreciate a quality pint of balanced dark real ale. Find out for yourself it’s well worth a try.

Very dark, clear brown beer with a thick, beige head. Coffee and malt aroma. Taste is an initial hit of hop followed by the chocolate, coffee and malt but it’s the hop that lingers into the finish.

Nice one. Chocolate and coffee hints. Dark appearance. Nice hit on palate. Licorice as well. A good one in my comfort zone.

Cask at The Picture House, Stafford (JDW) A clear brown colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of nuts, coffee, some roasted malts, slight chocolate and subtle dark fruits. Taste of nuts, coffee, roasted malts, some chocolate, slight dark fruits and subtle biscuit. Light bodied but a watery texture. A dryish, roasted bitterness in the finish. Drinks like a stout with nice coffee, nut and roasted flavours, however it’s quite thin. Decent though.

Very dark brown colour. Aroma and flavour have hints of cocoa and dark fruits. Quite rich feeling for a low abv beer.

Cask @ The Salopian, Shrewsbury. Pours dark mahogany brown, off-white head. Aroma is rather nondescript. Taste is easy-going with a light nutty sweetness. Not a lot else going on here but pleasant enough.

Ciemnobrązowy kolor, dość czyste patrząc pod światło. Piana nienajgorsza, kremowo-beżowa drobnoziarnista, pozostawia szereg krążków na szkle. W aromacie i smaku kawa, czekolada, ciemne owoce, karmel i toffi. W oddali trochę przypieczonej skórki od chleba. Silnie wyczuwalne także paloność. Goryczka średniego formatu, krótka. Lekkie, do średniego ciało. Delikatne wysycenie. Łatwo pijalne i bardzo smaczne.

Cask handpull at The Crosse Keys Bishopsgate as Swannay Dark Munro, 4.0%. Dark brown with a red hue, still, foamy light brown head, dotted lacing. Aroma is very chocolatey, good quality chocolate, bourbon biscuit, some coffee. Body is fairly light, soft carbonation. Aroma: coffee, burnt nuts Appearance: black, large head Taste: medium bitter, little sour Palate: smooth, creamy, sticky Overall: drinkable, not one that stands out, needs more aromas and a crisper palate.

Sissio (1783) - Orsenigo, ITALY - AUG 16, 2015
Cask at Blackfriars Glasgow. Clear dark brown, cappuccino head. Roasty and malty, yet mild with a hint of smokiness.
