UPDATED: APR 10, 2014 Not typically a style of beer I gravitate towards, but this is a particularly good amber. Plus, tastes like asheville. Pours a truly beautiful deep amber color ( I am on my first, so that is not the beer talking) with good head retention. a good amount of breadiness to it- malty sweetness and a hint of hops at first. the willamette floral notes are throwing me off a bit. the hops definitely come out more as it warms to room temp or maybe a slight burnt flavour- first few sips were the best. overall a great amber ale- by far the best offering I have tasted from Highland brewing. Having a pint at the tasting room right now. Had to lower score a bit Appearance only a 3. Nice color for an amber but No head retention. Aroma is just ok. Malt and some non-distinct Hard to pinpoint smells. Tasting more bitter than I remember. Surprising For only 30 ibu’s. Feel like I need some food with it to temper a bit. Feel like an amber should be more easy going. Slightly better with 1/2 the pint gone As it warms up. Just ok.

2015 BJCP Category: 19A American Amber Ale

AROMA: Moderately strong hop character (citrus, floral). Some malt sweetness. Noticeable oxidation character. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Beautiful deep clear copper color. Large off-white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Moderate malty sweetness with caramel and toffee (to a lesser extent). Firm hop presentation with earthy/citrusy flavors and moderate dry bitterness. Caramel taste emerges briefly on the finish before fading away cleanly. Slight lemon sherry flavor due to oxidation. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body with medium carbonation. Quite smooth and easily drinkable. Feels rather light for 5.6% ABV. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Has what you want in an amber ale - just not enough of it. 6/10

TOTAL SCORE: 32/50

Pours a dark rust orange-amber with white head. A watered down aroma of caramel and malts. A caramel, fruit, and malt aroma with some grain. A grainy and sweet caramel malt aftertaste.

This one poops a very rich almost deep red, but it’s clear and clean with a slightly toasted head. It doesn’t have an overwhelming aroma, but what it does have is a nice even blend of malts. The evenness continues in the taste with its lights bitterness and sweetness. It’s a light bodied beer with a thin but somewhat fizzy body. I’m not a big fan of amber ales, but this is one that I could certainly see myself drinking regularly.

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours a nice red with an off-white head. The aroma is caramel and herbal hops. The taste is caramel, bread, and tea. It’s smooth and easy-drinking. The sweetness is subtle and nicely balanced with a slight bitterness.

This is a great beer, it is smooth with a great balance of hops and malt. The color is good and I would recommend it to anyone
