Almost a black pour, it is covered by a fading tan head. Mostly roast focused nose where biscuity, but burnt dark malts lean more towards chocolate than coffee. Nutty and leafy/earthy on the palate. The oatmeal contributes a certain roundness on this semi-thick ale with moderate carbonation. A competent dark ale, but more like a stout than a porter. Lacks a little maltiness. Finishes clean.

The aroma is a little barnyard smell. Pours dark brown with beige head, mostly diminishing and excellent lacing. The taste is umami, not much to it. The body is medium/light, the texture thin, the carbonation lively and the finish abrupt. Doesn’t make it for me but this beer did sit in the fridge for awhile,

Poured from the tap into a pint glass at the Carolina Ale House in Columbia, SC. The appearance is a dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma is mostly coffee and malt. Very dark brown/coffee color, nice roasted malt aroma with some chocolate, slick texture, toasted malt/chocolate/oat flavor significantly compromised by chemical taste and astringency. 12 ounce bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The aroma has strong molasses and licorice notes. Leathery and herbal. This beer actually comes across a lot like a black ipa. Medium body and high carbonation.
