Cask; Status uncertain.
At 9% ABV it sits nicely beside our Orkney Porter, also 9%, and is the first time weve brewed a barley wine. A lovely deep amber in colour, we loaded it full of American hops - and then we put some more in! All in the interest of balance, it also contains a small mountain of Maris Otter pale malt.

Cask @ Paisley Beer Festival 2010. Clear golden colour, white bubbles. Aroma is sugar, syrup , fruits and sweet malts. Flavour is sweet fruity, orange, sweet malts, touch of hops. Slightly sweet finish. Little alcohol burn. Very balanced. Good stuff.

Cask at North Bar, Leeds. Pour an orange-gold, finger of head that lasts. Aroma is sweet, with some hops, grassiness and a hint of maple syrup, but I think its dampened by the head. Taste is very sweet - golden syrup, caramel, with a hint of hops, a little honey. Cask suits it, but leaves it a shade cloying. Need to drink it slowly. Sweet finish dies after a medium length of time, leaving a lifting grassy bitterness to end. Good stuff.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Pretty much a clear gold - amber beer. Little pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and semi dry. Super mild carbonation. Lactose sweet malt with a nice nutty caramel. Floral dried fruits, Touch of licorice. The milky sweetness holds this sweetish and clean barley wine together.

330ml bottle, from trade with AshtonMcCobb. Many thanks! Pours hazy amber, thin ring of white head. Aroma is rich caramel and uncertain alcohol spirit. Taste is slick rich caramel, nice dried fruits with a boozy warmth on the finish. Not usually one for Barley Wines but this is rather nice.

Near white frothy head soon left a cover on a translucent rich copper coloured still body. Sweet apple & summer fruits aroma. Thick, cloying, minimal carbonation & No Prickles!! Rich pureed fruit tastes of apple, grape, jam, marmalade - quite sweet but at the same a dry back.

Cascading murky amber body, similarly dissipating slight-white head. Initially comforting palate of galloping hops, surprising underlay of carbonation kicks rocks of malt into the pool without circling any distinctive barley wine flavours. Complex linger of layered sweet clarity, Manuka Honey in style, with a head scratching turn for such a hefty ABV. One to keep an eye on. (Highland Tap Takeover, Cloisters, Edinburgh)

intense sweetish fruit aroma (citruses mostly, some peach), honey, caramel, some floral notes, little earthy; golden, clear, medium, rather short-lasting wjite foam; medium+ sweetness and bitterness, very slightly sour(ish); full body, thick and smooth feel, soft carbonation, long bittersweet little warming finish Overall: great aroma, very good taste, well hidden alcohol, without flaws

33cl bottle from Beer52.com. A golden amber colour with a thick cream head; barley sugar aroma; rich and buttery in the mouth with loads of hops giving a bittersweet taste together with some peach and citrus; and then a sweet barley sugar finish with lingering bitterness and warmth. Rather good.
