COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Status uncertain.
At 9% ABV it sits nicely beside our Orkney Porter, also 9%, and is the first time we’ve brewed a barley wine. A lovely deep amber in colour, we loaded it full of American hops - and then we put some more in! All in the interest of balance, it also contains a small mountain of Maris Otter pale malt.

Aroma and taste of a classic BW with raisins, plums, toffee, and roasted brown sugar. Surprisingly watery looking and amber in color, especially given its syrupy mouth and sweetness. Fooled me for golden ale for a second on initial pour. Downrated mostly for the thick sweetness, which isn’t my thing, but if you’re into that, this is worth a try.

(bottle, 33cl, Swannay Old Norway, 8.0% abv) Hazy, deep golden to amber colour with a short off-white foamy head. Slightly syrupy malty aroma with notes of dried fruits, English marmalade and hints of alcohol. Moderately sweet and delicately bitter flavour, almost full bodied with a soft carbonation. Juicy malt-character with notes of citrus, oranges, marmalade, dried apricots and shades of caramel; sweet-bitter, citric and dried fruity finish with zesty notes and a warming alcoholic touch. 17.IV.17

Near white frothy head soon left a cover on a translucent rich copper coloured still body. Sweet apple & summer fruits aroma. Thick, cloying, minimal carbonation & No Prickles!! Rich pureed fruit tastes of apple, grape, jam, marmalade - quite sweet but at the same a dry back.

Bottle. Very promising, sweet malty aroma. Golden, clear with low, white head. Tastes fantastic- intensive sweetness is balanced with medium bitterness. Thanks to that, this beer isn’t tiring. All in all, the best Barley Wine I’ve ever tried.

Bottle: Deep golden, clear, small loose off-white head; solid sweetish nose of dried fruits and sweet pale malt with a pretty distinctive bitter-hoppy background; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, almost full bodied; solid lingering bitter-sweet finish with dried fruits, nuts and caramalt, followed by a slight alcohol-burn in the aftertaste. Well balanced,easy-drinking thirst-quencher. ..
