COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This robust porter has a full body with some hints of chocolate from the chocolate malt and midnight wheat. The mild noble hop aroma showcases the roasty flavors and subtle fruit and spice notes of the artisan-roasted Fair Trade/Organic coffee of Black Mountain, NCs Dynamite Roasting Co.

6 Jan 2015, bottle. Black. Nose is really big, bitter, dark espresso. Med body and moderately fizzy. Tastes like dark chocolate with hints of chili pepper. Faintly acidic. Nice enough.

The aroma has coffee as advertised! There is also burnt malt and a touch of brown sugar. The appearance is dark brown with a large, tan head. The taste definitely has coffee but it seems a bit rancid. The palate is thin. Overall this one was a disappointment for me, it had great potential in the aroma but something about the taste was not enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a small-to-moderate head. Good coffee notes in the nose, though the smell isnt too strong. Great roasting and coffee flavors to this, which manage to be smooth on the palate despite the harsher flavors. Very nice brew.

Dark beer with almost no head. Nose of green coffee beans and a little play doh. Sweet caramel flavor with some wet toast, roast grains and burnt sweetened coffee. Some celery and green stuff in the finish. The coffee flavor is pretty subtle.

@ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque brown-black with a light head cover, thin streaks of lace. Aroma is healthy earth, malt, and coffee. Taste matches the aroma: roasted malt, dark, moist earth, coffee, and dark toast are all present on a base of mild bittering. All moves smoothly to a lingering finish in which no additiopnal bittering is necessary. Very palatable, Im having it tonight in front of TV and a fire with Triscuits and Havarti cheese. Its a good night.

Bottle courtesy of durhambeer!
Pours basically black with a small but well retained head that leaves small bits of lacing on the glass.

The beer has a nice roasty and fruity smell. The coffee is vibrant and pungent and not unlike walking into my dearest Zanzibars Coffee house here in town while the roaster is doing her thing.

The flavor is roasty and bitter with a little bit of creamy sweetness. The beer isnt overly sweet but does have a little bit of ashy-ness.

The palate is a little bit think but the low carbonation serves the flavor perfectly.

Sampled at the brewery. It poured a clear brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of moderately roasted coffee and spices. The taste was medium to heavy roasted dark coffee with some bittersweetness and a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.

Great black pour with fading tan head. Nice roasty clean fresh coffee aroma, some vanilla. Flavor has more of the roast grounds bitterness and not as much balance. Meh. One of the better coffee beers out there, but Im not a fan of coffee.

Bottle, thanks ethan for sharing. Deep brown with a chocolate milk like sudsy head with plentiful lace against my mini imperial glass courtesy of Durham Central Park. Nose is cocoa, light coffee, light fruit. Nice, not overwhelming but nice. Roasty, dark chocolate, light espresso. very easy drinking, light bitterness in the finish. Solid and like everything Highland makes, English style so dont go judging this against Hill Farmstead Everett or anything amazing like that.
