Man, I love beers with coffee in ’em. Absolutely love ’em. This one by Highland doesn’t really bring any innovation to the genre, but it’s still delicious and well made. I could drink a lot of this. Pours dark black with chestnut brown edges and one finger of tan head. Nose is very nice, molasses and sweet java notes. Lots of chocolate and a light roast. Coffee flavor is a tad weak. Spent grounds and bitter bakers chocolate. Noticeable acidity from the coffee and dark grain. Bought a 12-pack of this and almost forgot to rate it. Pours nearly black, just brown around the edges. Pours with a small head, but otherwise mostly flat. Nose is roasty coffee and cocoa nibs. Yum. 12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market, Elizabeth City, NC. Dark brown pour with a creamy khaki head. Aroma of strong coffee, rich dark chocolate, and dark roasted malts. Bitter coffee is most certainly noted in the flavor but is not overwhelming or unpleasant. It is more reminscent of cold coffee than anything. Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Coffee aroma, with roasted malts and light sweetness. The flavor has sweet coffee, light roasted malts, and some floral hoppy bitterness. Pretty good.

Black pour with a small bubbly brown head that fades. Nose is deep roasted malts, tons of coffee and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is roast, fresh coffee and some sweet milk chocolate. 2/29/12. 12oz bottle thanks to decaturstevo! Dark brown pour with a nice, thick brown head that cuts in half but sticks in spotty rings. Nice aroma with sweet and dark chocolates, slightly tart and acidic, but nice coffee, and smooth maltiness. Black pour with a nice tan head that quickly fades. Aroma of coffee with a touch of lactose. Mmmm ... sweet flavor of chocolate covered espresso beans with a slight bitter finish. Pitch black with very little head. Aroma contains some chocolate and coffee. Flavor is rather bitter with some coffee, dark chocolate, and licorice. Full bodied and bitter. Overall a good beer.
