A good, smoky porter. Dark chocolate, coffee, and wine. A good introductory porter and a good beer in general.

Pours black with a beige head that leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is coffee and ash. Taste is moderately sour, a little sweet and a little bitter. There are notes of roasted malt, coffee, ash, plums, and dark chocolate. Moderate to full bodied with moderate carbonation. More ashy than smoky and too sour.

Smooth porter with a subtle taste of smoke, too subtle for my taste. It is still a good beer but not distinctive enough. This one was promoted by the LCBO with two other smoked beer, it is not as good as the Rauchbier.

Very dark, fairly flat pour - black with hints of red. Aroma is milk chocolate, cherry, oak. Taste is chocolate, leafy hop, cherry, smoky wood finish. Enjoyable and drinkable.

mikkopen (1193) - Guelph, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 15, 2017
650 ml bottle. Black, with a thin tan head. Roasted malty aroma with sweetish licorice and chocolate, smoke, and notes of coffee. The flavour is very much on the same lines as the aroma, sweetish, roasted and smoky, with fruity notes, and a moderately bitter finish. Tasty, but would be even better if it was a bit drier.

Aroma of molasses and espresso. Near-black colour. Mocha front with a bitter, nutty finish. Heavy body with low carbonation. Very tasty brew.

Bottled. Completely black body, even beige head. The aroma isn’t strong but it’s balanced. The taste is smoky and fruity and the finish is sweet.

Bottle shared with dad A: chocolate, light licorice, molasses, a touch of smoke, brown sugar, earthy hops App: dark brown border brown smallish beige head. T/p: med body with short to moderate long bitter finish. Soft to moderate carbonation. O: a little too sweet for my liking for the style. Smoke is barely noticeable, it’s perfectly balanced for me. Good.

UPDATED: SEP 7, 2016 Bottle in Brew Box. Very dark with light brown head. Smells like almost burnt toast, caramel, some cola. Quite strong Smokey flavour with some almost burnt toast. Someone else mentioned flat cola and that fits some of what I taste (I like flat pop sometimes). Not very bubbly, rather flat. A bit sweet for a porter, and lacks the biscuit and bitterness of a typical porter. Not bad, but a bit off for the style.
