Bottle from a super generous friend, as part of my moving to the UK party. Sweet and smooth, with a lot of vanilla, oak, and bourbon flavors. Despite all that decadence, though, it stays restrained and balanced, showing off that it's a great barleywine, even without the barrel aging.

500 ml bottle via trade - thanks again, Shea! Bottle dated 9.8.16, so this was consumed right at a year out. Pours a cloudy amber with almost no head and no bubbles remaining after a minute. Layers of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, bourbon, dried fruits, wood, and syrup. Medium-plus bodied, with low to moderate carbonation and a sweet, smooth, warm mouthfeel that's just a wee bit sticky in the aftertaste. Oh boy. This is a world-class barrel-aged barleywine. Just what you'd want the style to be. omgsrslyshaun (11) - - JUL 25, 2017
Decadent aroma. Sweet, but not overly so. Maple, dark fruit, candied raisins. Great balance with the barrel. OMG Srsly Shaun!?!?! fletchfighters (1553) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 18, 2017
500 ML Bottle
Thanks Owen for sharing
Dark brown color, minimal tan head and collar. Some AVB legs. Does stick to the glass well.
Nose is bourbon, oak, brown sugar, toffee, warm figs. Amazing nose. So well balanced. Reminded me of maple syrup.
Slightly sweet taste. Kind of like warm pecan pie. Maple, oak, bourbon, brown sugar. Hides the AVB well and well balanced.
Must try for barley wine fans. Masterpiece skrip (228) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 3, 2017

O~ this could be my favorite BA Barley Wine but i’m totally biased since i’m not too into the style. i’m very seasonal with this style but this one i could actually drink year around. super surprised by how smooth and refreshing it is! I NEED MORE!!!!

500ml bottle bought at brewery a few months ago. Aroma: caramel nicely integrated with this bourbon goodness (including lots of vanilla). Some dark red fruits are also part of this party. App: clear brown with off white head leaving little lacing which is ok for the style. Taste and palate: medium to full body, smooth bourbon, lots of vanilla in mouth, sublet bitter and alcohol burning finish. Overall: let me preface this by saying I’m not the biggest fan of bw as I often find bw too strong and big. This one is well made. So easy to drink despite its sweetness. It tastes so good! Lots of stuff in there : caramel, nuts, vanilla, a bit of coffee minus the bitterness, etc. I can say this is an amazing barley wine despite I’m not a fan of the style. Guess, I shouldn’t have traded my other bottles. Again, great job HF.
