COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed (with help from our great friend Jean of Tired Hands!) on the day of my grandmother’s passing (Norma), this is an inspired Biere de Mars fermented entirely in oak and inoculated with our house spontaneous culture.

Bottle generously provided by Gonzoillini. Thank you Tony, I’ve been interested in trying this for a very long time. Pours a cloudy brownish orange in color with very little head on the pour. I wanted to note that the bottle foamed out of the neck after opening, so keep an eye when opening. Nose is interesting and I don’t know if I exactly like it. There is honey, white wine, hops, and some band aid characteristics. Not bad, but it’s peculiar. Taste is better, it’s more focused on the white wine and lemon characters. There is some grassiness to it, it is faintly hoppy and somewhat saison-like. Mouthfeel is light, carbonation is light to non-existent, gentle acidity, and a short to moderate finish. It’s one of the better Biere de gardes I’ve had, but probably not the best. Still really thankful to try it, thanks again Tony!

*4/20/2013 750ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass. A~ ruby red hue, darkish brown, slight copper color. nice white fluffy head and a little lacing. S~ some orange and lemon/lime tartness followed by lots of oak. T~ wow! grapes and black cherrys up front, then comes the orange, grapefruit, lemon/lime tartness. followed by a lot of oak just like the on the nose. pretty sour all the way through. this has crazy complexity and is still very well balanced. M~ heres where the honey comes into play, smooth but rather thick. perfectly carbonated and slightly dry from the tartness. O~ yup... amazing! why did i ever doubt it? well probably because Biere De Mars usually isn’t my go to style but this definitely stands out from everyone i’ve ever had. a little of their saison style comes through as well, which i find in some of their beers like Abner and Wheat Is The New Hops. this is exactly what i love about HF. their well water also might have something to do with their outstanding brews. next time i go up there i’m totally asking them to fill a growler with their water haha.

(2014 version on tap @ Warpigs HF Day, Copenhagen, May 12 2016) Pours a medium amber with almost no head. Aroma of red berries, caramel, sweet grape, stewed fruit, a sort of sweet-tart blend with some wood and funk lying over it. Flavour is sweet and kind of acidic, like a drier fortified wine, with toasty oak, bitter grain, sour grape, and a dry hay and funk barnyard character. Finish is rather tannic, dry and woody with a bit of grain, and lingering tart fruit notes. Medium body, lightly oily feel, soft carbonation. A bit hard to get into at first, with charms that reward some patience.
