UPDATED: MAY 4, 2015 Bottles kindly shared by Tom 10101 & JHuxley during our epic CMLSG cellar tasting - all 3 versions put next to each other. All of them have an incredibly nice balance between sweetness and roastiness which is unparallelled vs. other American BA RIS’s, which make them all great beers.
- Damon: 3.9/5: subtle vanilla and cocoa in the aromas
- Damon PBA;: 4.2/5: my favourite: more depth and complexity. Nose reveils cigars, leather, red fruits. Taste is roasty with a nice vinious touch of raisins.
- Damon DBA 4/5: despite the fact that it is the most balanced in the nose, I think the taste is a tad bland.
Re-r it at The Ultimate Imperial Stout Tasting April 2015. The DBA has aged wonderfully and is thé best A’can Stout to date for me: balanced, subtle and extremely tasteful. Upped to 4.7. Leighton (22836) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 30, 2015
Bottle shared in London - picked up in a trade. Pours rich black brown with a dense, lasting foamy tan head. The nose is incredibly dynamic, with notes of burnt wood, toffee, cocoa and rich, ripe berries. Medium to heavy sweet flavor, with notes of burnt wood, dark chocolate, charred ham, alcohol, figs, chocolate, all balanced out with a bit of earthy bitterness. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation and silky texture. Warming finish with decadent cocoa notes, cherry, further burnt wood, creamy chocolate, dates, berries. Great balance with just moderate suggestions of alcohol kick. Wonderful confluence of toffee, chocolate and dark fruits. Superlative beer. jkwood04 (5472) - Connecticut, USA - DEC 28, 2013
375ml bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a small, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, strong oak and vanilla, a good amount of bourbon and port that blend perfectly, and a nice dark fruit note. Flavor the same with a great blend of bourbon and port. Thick, smooth texture. Another great HF beer. djd07 (16317) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 30, 2014
Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a motor oil with paperthin tan head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong burnt malt, dark chocolate, cocoa, toffee. Thick mouthfeel with rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, oak, and vanilla. Wow, blown away by this one. Miles away from the port and regular. Really enjoyed this. Complex blend of berry jam, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, espresso, and dry oak. Extremely smooth, light vinous character, rich, full bodied. Long port and bourbon finish with moderate booziness.

Bottle cheers to K; opaque dark brown pour with a creamy tan head, sweet chocolate aroma, taste has sweet chocolate dark berries, mellow bourbon, very smooth, vanilla. phaleslu (10913) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 8, 2013
375 ml bottle. Bottled May 2013. Pours an opaque brown with almost no head. The bourbon and port barrels are both so apparent in the aroma; oak, dark fruits, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, some vinous notes, roast, molasses. Very rich. Flavor is equally rich and tasty, with molasses, vanilla, oak, bourbon, vinous notes, port, caramel, and brown sugar. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a warm, rich, coating mouthfeel. I had been warned that it would be undercarbonated but that may have been overblown or didn’t bother me in the least. Wowe. This is fantastic. Exceeded very high expectations. kermis (14999) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - APR 19, 2014
Bottle shared at the 2014 tasting in the Cellar of Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles. Pours near black with a ring beige head. Aroma of light roast, fudge, bourbon, vanilla and molasses. Flavor is heavy sweet and light heavy bitter. Thick and smooth mouthfeel. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Amazing! jtclockwork (17655) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 20, 2015
Bottle. Thanks Jake! Pours black tan head. Nose/taste of bourbon, port, roast chocolate, vanilla, oak and brownie- smooth - medium body. Sudz4Dayz (164) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 5, 2017
375ml bottle purchased on site. Pours oily, viscous black with NO head whatsoever. Spending 4 years in barrels has done quite a number on this one. The lack of head is replaced with an interesting Marangoni effect much like that of a strong, full bodied red wine. Unique in that sense. Smells outstanding. Extremely boozy, sweet bourbon heat and port sweetness. Dark chocolate, and roast as well. Smell is overall dominated by the booze and and sweet barrels in a great way. Tastes incredible. Sweet, sweet bourbon, hot, winey port taste with a lasting taste in your cheeks similar to that of red wine. Nice roast and dark chocolate finish and aftertaste. The sweet booziness is just wonderful. Superb flavor. Very strong, labeled at 14+% and it definitely feels like it. Not a traditional full mouthfeel in the imperial stout sense but a great all around surrounded flavor. Not much carbonation but it’s truly not need in this beer. TOP NOTCH
