Bottle. Pours black with a mocha head that leaves behind some lacing as it dissipates to a ring around the glass. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, and roasted malts most apparent after the pour. Slight alcohol after it has warmed. Light sweetness up front overtaken mid-palate by a moderate, slowly growing bitterness and dryness. Chocolate, cocoa. Full bodied, soft and fluffy mouthfeel. Quite dry finish. DuffMan (10278) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 23, 2015
Bottle from SlovakSniper (thanks!), shared with Parksy, phantomhennes, and TvM. We had this alongside Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, and this brew was the clear standout, sperior in balance, complexity, mouthfeel, and simple tastiness. by far the most elegant coffee beer I’ve ever had. On tap at the Blackback. Black body. Viscous looking. Huge chocolate head. Settles to a small collar. Aroma of coffee and extremely roasty malt. Oatmeal is really strong. Smells like it could be too roasty.
Taste taste is much improved. Coffee blends into the roasted malt. A little sweet. Oatmeal lends to the sweetness. Even a bit of burnt smokiness.
Smooth and creamy, but it had a roasty bitterness. Medium carbonation.
A little disconnected. Sweet and bitter, both in seemingly disproportionate quantities.
