Aroma is chocolate, smoked malts, some coffee, spice, and bread. Brown pour, tan head with good retention and spotty lacing. Smoke flavors up front, followed by caramel, chocolate, and hints of roast. Medium bitterness, slightly sweet. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Nice.
Growler thanks to Mike. Pours black with small tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong roast, dark chocolate, oak, smoke. Slick body, roasted malt, cocoa, bitter finish, very good. tapefuzz (931) - Massachusetts, USA - NOV 28, 2017

Growler thanks to Youri! Pours crystal clear reddish mahogany, large creamy tan head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, pine, coffee, a bit nutty. Flavor is light sweet, medium bitter. Medium body. This is basically a black IPA, and a good one. mansquito (7148) - Nueva York, New York, USA - NOV 17, 2017
Owl Farm, Brooklyn tap: pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is slightly smoky, kind of woody and very malty. Taste is soet ofamoky. Somewhat bitter. Loads of malts. Very smooth but with a finish with a hefty bite. DiarmaidBHK (6151) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 27, 2017
Draft at Blackback pub. Pours black with a khaki head. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. Just a shitload of smoked wood on the nose and tongue. Finished clean. Just a lovely beer.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2017 Pours black with brown head. A strong smokey meat aroma. A balanced smokey taste with hints of fruit and roasted malts. A dry malt and smokey afteraste. Johnsense (1804) - - OCT 22, 2017
Dark brown pour, smaller tan head, light flecks of lace. Light smoke in the aroma and taste, malty, roasted nuts, cocoa, light wood. Fairly strong hop note compliments the maltiness/smokiness of this one. Medium body, very light roasted malt aftertaste. End result: a smoked beer i could reach for any time. skrip (230) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 2, 2017
750ml growler poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass.
A~ very dark for a brown ale. you can definitely see the color in the light though. nice bubbly head and a little bit of lacing.
S~ not too much going on here. a little smoke, oaky wood and caramel.
T~ opens up a bit here. smoke up front, sweet roasted malts and caramel mid palette. with a smooth molasses finish. all followed by a smokey brown sugar after taste that lingers.
M~ kind of thick, definitely a molasses/caramel feel here which plays nicely with the overall flavor. nice carbonation and surprisingly smooth despite the thickness.
O~ very nice smoked ale, not overly smokey with an amazing balance. i was under the presumption that this was George based and i can totally see that now. the smoke just seems to take away the hop presence that George does so well but its all good! the balance is what really shines here! ctipping (2280) - Florida, USA - JUL 29, 2015
Originally reviewed 10/25/2013. 750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Deep brown. Small khaki head. Gone quickly. Transparent.
Smells woody and smokey. Malty, but I can’t smell any real sugary components. Taste is more malty. Less intense on the smoke. Very woody. Deep caramel malt, but again no sweetness. Smoke gets stronger throughout. A little chocolate in the back. Ashyand woody finish.
Medium body. Medium carbonation. Very strong and bitter finish.
This is intense. Much more caramel as it warms, but still strong verging on rough.
