*5/7/2013 500ml bottle poured into a Noda snifter. A~ black! obviously! with a nice tan head and a good amount of lacing for a stout. S~ lots of bourbon and booziness up front. all followed by some chocolate, caramel, and vanilla beans. T~ a ton of chocolate and cocao nibs. spicy rye malts, vanilla and caramel as you start to swallow. all followed by bourbon boozy goodness, which literally tastes like a glass of Elijah Craig on the rocks. i’ve never experienced so much bourbon barrel presence, like as if it was the actual thing. total hybrid stout/porter. the Everett aspects give this a baltic style, which adds a fantastic roasted sweetness. M~ heres where the maple comes out, very rich and thick. also has some what of a cocao nib feel, if you know what i mean. still very smooth and nicely carbonated. O~ definitely an all around complex, completely balanced stout. which comes as no surprise! could definitely use a little age though to let the booze fad a bit, but if you like Elijah Craig i’d dive right in!

Bottle. Thanks to Leighton. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty woody chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate licorice woody flavor. Has a roasted malty woody bourbon chocolate and licorice finish.

500 ml bottle- pours very black and fudgey, slight creamy head. Nose- vanilla, whiskey, anise and wood. Taste- very rich chocolate initially and then rye like spice and roast. Many competing flavours emerge as the beer warms. More vanilla, brandy, dark fruits and just a touch of heat. a big powerful beer but not too heavy on the palate and finishes with a dry toasty quality. Excellent beer and has held up well despite being three years old.

Fabuleux!

Bottle shared by a friend. Poured a deep dark Black colour with a Nice mocha coloured ring on top. Nose is fairly sweet with a big amount of sweet maple syrup, chocolate fudge, dark roasted chocolate, sweet vanilla, oak, marshmallows, sweet sticky bourbon, sweet oak. Taste is medium to full bodied with a clear sweet and sticky mouthfeel. Aftertaste is quite hot, with a clear alcohol notice. Very Nice blended stout,

500 mL bottle. Originally reviewed 12/16/2013. Pours with a decent khaki head. Nice collar. Islands of bubbles. Nose is Bourbon and vanilla. More blended into the flavor than #2. Oak and vanilla blend well. Chocolate, but not fudgy. Taste of Bourbon is very sharp and not as well integrated. Chocolate. Vanilla. Oak comes through in the finish. Medium carbonation. Slightly boozy. Medium body, not very thick. Doesn’t seem as rich as Madness #2. Just as good though.

500 mL bottle, huge thanks to George at the Bevy for hooking me up!!! Rich, thick, black pour with brown around the edges and a small dark tan head. Amazingly complex nose, with classic HF integration of vanilla and nutty barrel character into chocolate ganache, softly roasted coffee bean; silly complex combo of flavors. Batches 3 and 4 were both lightly infected; this shit was boss.

kermis (14191) - The Hague / Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAY 13, 2015
Bottle shared. Pours near black with a big brown but short lived head. Aroma of molasses, oak, vanilla, a little overripe dark fruit, toffee and light licorice. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with bourbon coming out more in the plalate along with some light licorice and dark chocolate. Full bodied with a light prickly carbonation and a boozy bourbon alcohol finish.

500 ml bottle. Dark roast coffee, chocolate. Lots of barrel and quite a bit of heat on this one, which surprised me for something from HF and this old.

I actually had this a week earlier and it was a completely different experience. Chocolate chips and roast. Light on the barrel. Not 100% sure it was batch 1, but it was the same 500ml, and I believe subsequent bottles were 375.
