Bottle at the brewery, shared with Nelson on 1/19/17.Sammy (12099) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 19, 2017
Dark mahogany, though not pitch black, with reasonable clarity and light magenta tints on the edges. Charred-beige head atop is small but shows moderately-strong retention.
Roast, ash, milk chocolate and very mild citrus (orange peel, orange oil, orange liqueur, that sort of thing) are all quite sniffable and rather elegant for an Imperial Stout. No fudgey/cakey caramel sweetness and yet, nor is it intensely roasty, pruney or vinous. Lots of milk chocolate and light orange character with herbal/floral notes, light vanilla, graham cracker and more milk chocolate lingering. Not boozy whatsoever.
In the mouth it tastes like one of those chocolate shaped oranges that you hit on the table to crack in to pieces. Candied orange, milk chocolate, light vanilla and a bit of roast for balance. Ample, engaging carbonation, no booze and quite highly attenuated. Maybe just a touch more orange chocolate character than I care for, but you can’t deny how well-executed this beer is. It’s dry, reserved and balanced and surprisingly drinkable.

Bottle via trade, shared at the CPH penthouse suite. It pours jet black with a small, bubbly tan head. The aroma is rich, sweet, sticky, orange matchmakers, roasted malt, charred wood, roasted malt, toasted nut and earth. The taste is slick, rich roasted malt, classy orange liqueur, oily, orange matchmaker, toasty, nougat, mild warming alcohol, light spice, dark chocolate, rocky road and wood with a dry, slick finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth - feel. Thankful not too sweet. Tasty and quaffable! Sudz4Dayz (136) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 8, 2016
375ml bottle for on site consumption. Pours oily black with a small foamy head. Mocha, marshmallow color with a slight tinge of orange with small bubbles leaving great lacing. Smells like dark chocolate, roast, sweet barrel wood and a small cinnamon spiciness. Taste is roasty, espresso coffee beans, dark chocolate and super well balanced with a small hint of orange zest. You get a sweet wood and graham cracker flavor as well. Truly amazing. Great mouthfeel surrounding your entire mouth with flavor. Very smooth. Full lingering aftertaste. This has climbed to the top of my list. It’s exactly what I wanted in a stout of this caliber. Truly top notch.

Bottle thanks to Rob! Pours opaque black with a large brown head which recedes to a modest layer. The citrus smacks your nose as soon as the cap is popped, vanilla, oak and dark chocolate form the aroma. Taste is chocolate sweet, vanilla sweet, caramelised sugar, slight hint of citrus and sweet orange liqueur, a hint of cocoa bitterness somewhere in the back row. Full body with a smooth mouthfeel.
