Little cloudy brown beer, small head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: caramel, cocoa powder, sweet, vanilla, bit sugary, mocha. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit sour, mocha, bitter, dark chocolate, bitter and hoppy, caramel. Aftertaste: hops, vanilla, caramel, bit sugary, sweet, mocha, coffee, dark chocolate. Very decent stout! Would not have guessed it’s a 10% ABV though!
Pours black with very low beige head. Aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, sligth coffee. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, sweetness, coffee. Lots of of hops, kinda bitter. Palate: medium-full body. Overall: Not that much on citrus (oranges). Alcohol well hidden, surprisingly drinkable. Martinus (4601) - Baarle-Nassau, NETHERLANDS - JAN 23, 2013

A nice, well made stout. Not really picking up on the citrus though.

Bottle (500 ml). Traded by Reynolds314, thanks Matt! Black with a small brown head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and slight orange zest that induce bitterness. Taste is about the same. Mouthfeel is creamy. Medium body (thin for a RIS). It’s easily drinkable for the style if considered as a RIS, but I would probably have classified this one as a Black IPA in a blind tasting. Orange had fainted. JulienHuxley (5809) - Sherbrooke, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 20, 2013
Bottle. Black pour, brown head. Aroma is roasty, some orange zest, quite hoppy (fruity) still, despite its age (or maybe its the citrus), coffee aroma as well. Taste is coffee, roasty, well balanced sweetness and bitterness. Soft carbonation, really drinkable.

Thanks to Travlr for sharing this one. 50 cl. bottle sampled. Exited to actually try Hill Farmstead & it’s a “collab” with Mikkelller. + it’s an RIS with citrus, would love to see more stouts with fruits. Pours standard black with a mocha head. Sweet mocha, creamy nose, light bitterness, light touch of roast, touch hop, vanilla, milk chocolate. Taste is milk chocolate, light herbs, moderate bitter roast, milky, touch sweet creamy, fruity but not specifically picking up citrus, maybe a light touch of peel if I wanted to, would have like more but this is pretty good as it is now, light dark fruits, vanilla, light hop, light caramel. On the medium side body-wise for a stout but easy to drink. Hard to form a definite opinion of a brewery from just one beer & hype is just that, hype aka nonsense. This was a very lovely beer. sebletitje (10080) - Enghien, BELGIUM - JAN 20, 2013
66cl bottle sample @ RBBWG 2013, courtesy of Travlr.
Benzai (15625) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JAN 19, 2013
Sampled from bottle @ RBBWG 2013. Opaque pitch black color, small to medium sized brown head. Smell malts, hops, coffee, lovely roastyness. Taste malts, superb roastyness, lightly hops, a touch of coffee, some alcohol. Velvety silky texture, full body, suitable carbonation. Lukaduke (3206) - Gray, Maine, USA - JAN 19, 2013
Pours a rich deep umber with a dark mocha foam... Aromas are sweet milk chocolate with traces of bright focused citrus and deep roasted malts. The palate follows the nose with a great balance between citrus and chocolate. Smooth creamy mouthfeel delivers the flavor profile with elegance and restraint. Love how the citrus peak and fades and peaks again.. not overpowering but just enough to heighten the senses. Best citrus stout Ive ever had yet I will say Ive only had a few ! yourefragile (140) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - JAN 13, 2013
From notes, on draft at HF Harvest Festival.
Viscous black pour with a thick, dark brown head. Great retention. Aroma is rich blend of roast and chocolate malt with citrus peel and light citrus hops. Molasses, burnt sugar, citrus zest and pine also present throughout. Crisp, smooth and creamy body with moderate carbonation. Flavor is remarkably unique and unlike anything expected. Initially typical stout flavors of roast malt, ash, molasses, dark chocolate and brown sugar before finishing with a zesty and fruity orange punch (nothing like an IPA however). Somehow, it all works in perfect balance and this is one of the most unique and enjoyable stouts I’ve had recently.
