4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a rich deep umber with a dark mocha foam... Aromas are sweet milk chocolate with traces of bright focused citrus and deep roasted malts. The palate follows the nose with a great balance between citrus and chocolate. Smooth creamy mouthfeel delivers the flavor profile with elegance and restraint. Love how the citrus peak and fades and peaks again.. not overpowering but just enough to heighten the senses. Best citrus stout Ive ever had yet I will say Ive only had a few !
Backlog entry 500ml bottle thanks to Sam. Pours out black topped with a tan head. nose is citrus chocolate notes roast malts toffee. Taste is more of the Citrus notes chocolate roast coffee and a nice end. skortila (5985) - Baarn, NETHERLANDS - JUL 23, 2017
Bottled @ Mikkeller & Friends. Old note. The aroma has coffee, chocolate, some roast and citrus. Black coloured beer with a tin, lasting, beige head. The taste is moderate bitter, moderate sweet with chocolate and citrus. Very nice. skrip (230) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 2, 2017
500ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass.
A~ couldn’t get any darker, nice tanish head and a tiny bit of lacing.
S~ like a stout haha very roasty, lots of chocolate and a little coffe. some nice citrus notes on the end, lemon, bright orange and some lime.
T~ starts out following the nose, lots of dark roasted malt, followed by a little coffe, then some hop bitterness. once you swallow you get hit with a citrus zest, more so here then on the nose. the citrus gives this a nice sweetness, kind of like a milk stout but more acidity.
M~ smoooth as could be, especially for the high abv. a little warming but thats to be expected. nice carbonation and surprisingly not one bit dry.
O~ very nice, interesting stout. definitely not a HF favorite but its still very well rounded. everything comes out evenly despite the complexity. one thing HF is ridiculously good at pulling off no matter what. definitely let this warm up a bit before drinking as well, i’d say around 55-60. unless you must "catch them all" like myself theres not too much of a reason to seek this out. much better stouts out there but if the citrus aspect is pulling you in, definitely go for it! after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - FEB 22, 2016
500. Pours a near-opaque black with a loose thin dark tan head. Big nutty sweet chocolatey nose, also showing coffee and roasty malts. Creamy thick body, a bit oily, with light carb. Roasty sweet nutty caramelly chocolatey mid palate. Long earthy roasty dark-chocolatey finish. varanid99 (1337) - AUSTRALIA - NOV 5, 2015
Black pour with a nice persistent tan head. Coffee, orange, vanilla and boozy aromas. Taste is slightly roasty but there is a sweet, orange, chocolate, vanilla, liqueury slightly booziness - it’s really nicely balanced without anything being overwhelming.

Originally reviewed 2/26/2012. 500 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Pours with a nice mocha head. It settles into nice swirls of foam atop a black body until it finally fades into a ring. The foam clings to the glass.
I’ve been reading reviews where people are saying that the orange flavor is an afterthought, but I think it’s fully integrated into the stout/porter aroma. Huge hop presence, which certainly blurs the line between what is hops and what is orange, but the orange is distinct from the hops. Smells like a black IPA with a giant chocolate backbone and a nice aroma of orange peels.
I taste the hop profile at first. Citrus hops. This feels like it was dry hopped like an IPA. Chocolate in the background that eventually comes to the forefront. Distinct orange flavor throughout the drink. It neither fades nor becomes more prevalent. It adds to the flavor nicely. Really terrific.
Mouthfeel - It’s got a bitter finish, but it’s negligible considering the hop presence of this stout. Citrus does a good job of masking the alcohol, too.
This is great. Definitely something that needs to be consumed fresh. It has probably already faded, but it’s still delicious. rouhlas (3783) - Thessaloniki, GREECE - JUN 21, 2015
From old notes. From tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Black color with brown head. Roasted malty aroma, coffee, dark chocolate, fruity. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium to full almost creamy body with soft carbonation. bursprak (3285) - Aarhus, DENMARK - FEB 8, 2015
Bottle split 3 ways. Pitch black pour with a fairly generous tan head. Nose has chocolate, light roast, light orange juice and some soy sauce. No orange in the taste, medium roast, chocolate, vanilla and some ash. Really well made and delicious stuff! tomthompson89 (1983) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 22, 2015
big beer!!! again shared with swoopjones. big dark pour with some nice tan head. nose is everything you would want in a stout but maybe a touch of citrus. mouthfeel is nice and the flavor is really complex. swoopjones (7020) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JAN 21, 2015
bottle, great stout, big roastiness, coffee, dark chocolate with a minor orange note. very complex stout that opened up nicely after warming just a bit
