Back log On tap at the tap station west Seattle. Pours out dark brown almost black topped with a small tan head. Nose is nice coffee forward roast malts a touch of smoke and some chocolate. Can:   Almost pitch black, little khaki head and lacing.   Soft roasted malt nose, very soft.
Extremely soft on the tongue.   A little acrid roastiness on the backside.   Otherwise clean, but light.
Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but leaning to the thin side.   Comes across as very pedestrian, not
much flavor other than light roasted malts, and even then a touch acrid or husky.   Meh... Needs to be a tad

16 oz can out of a 4 pack. Pours black with a cola like appearance and fizzy head. Love the can by the way. Blacked out version of the signature Hilliards look is quite refreshing. Huge roasted malt aroma with a hint of coffee. A little on the lighter side in body than I expected from this stout, though the flavor is big. Nicely done. Enjoyed this beer. UPDATED: APR 26, 2017 On cask at Seattle Cask-o-Rama. Dark brown near black pour. Aroma of vanilla, caramel. Whew! Tastes deep char-too much. Vanilla notes. Sour finish.

The color is dark brown, just before black, with compact head. Aroma if roasted malt and stale bread. Weak and dry mouthfeel; roasted malt flavor with a bit of burnt malts, burnt bread; ordinary bitterness.
Not in the direction I like.
On tap at Hilliard’s, pours a dark brown with a small head. Nose brings out light toasted malt and roast. Flavour reveals a lot of weak toasted malt - not much too this. Balanced well enough, but not much character. It’s okay.
