No cork or wire cage here. We’re getting back to the spirit of a Saison as a beer you can drink every day, not just special occasions. A refreshing and complex beer, ours is brewed without the addition of any spices, however the Belgian yeast adds notes of citrus, peppercorn, and coriander.

Someone stumbled across a urine soaked pinnapple in the sun bottled it and called it Hilliard’s Saison

Received a 16-oz can via trade with 5000. Pours a semi-hazy golden pale yellow colored brew with a thick and rocky white head that has some excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of saison yeast, tart white fruits, and a hint of golden grain malt. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of Belgian yeast, golden grain malt, peppercorns and hint of coriander. Finish is semi-sweet with a yeast and peppercorn with golden grain malt aftertaste. An easy neutral saison overall.

Can, undated, drunk 8/18/16 at Camp Muir, Rainier.
Didn’t pour this one out, as we had no glasses, so I’ll give it the default 4.
Smells quite citrusy, with lots of bread dough, honey, light caramel and big white pepper and pineapple qualities. It comes together quite bright, if somewhat sharp/acidic. The hops seem to add more acidity than anything else, though there’s a strong lime/grapefruit element which is actually not resinous. Pepper, grass, grain and more light caramel lingering. Hey, there’s no banana, at least...
Pretty nice texture with an engaging yeast and a malty feel to it that also shows moderately-strong attenuation. Peach, orange, white pepper, hay and bright acidity all comprise the flavor which leans to the malty side, and lightly sweet, but not too much so, really. Fruity and maybe a touch too sharp from the hop and yeast acidity combining. Strong grassiness persists with lots of pineapple, grapefruit and nectarine lingering.

Flavorful with medium carbonation. Yeasty and green apple flavors although not due to flaw. Quite enjoyable on a summers day. Not sure I fully grasp other raters hate on this one.

Can - Light funky bready yeast. Clerish gold with a rich white head. Light sweet funky notes with some apple. Ntt great.

Blond color clean. This smells and tastes as liquefied plastic, I’m thinking of the old plastic Christmas tree, not a single good beer quality; rather unpleasant.

At Hilliards. Golden, soapy white head. Eggy banana, ok belgian malting character, but very sweet, wet, cloying. Still-heavy. Ok yeasty overtones but body needs a lot of work to my taste.

SHIG (4965) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - FEB 2, 2016
Can: Poured an orange with white colored head. Skunky funky aroma. Fruity and barnyard, but not very drinkable to me.

Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 16, 2015
Tallboy can. Clear golden, large foamy white head, good retention. Aroma of yeast, spice, white bread. The taste is dry citrus, yeast, pale bready malt. Medium bodied, low carbonation.

Big can in a tulip. Pours golden with a lacy, white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, pale and light caramel malts, and some hints of banana/cloves. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not the best saison but for a standard Belgian-style saison, it’s not terrible.

stantheman (1101) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 29, 2015
On tap at Stateside Craft on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. A pale Amber beer with moderate white head and a sour fruity nose. Taste is sour, fruity, slightly sweet. Sour finish. 3.2.
