Bottle; Pour is mahogany with a fine bubbled khaki head into this glass; the nose is initial earthen oak, caramel malts, a hint of char, with a touch of vanilla present here. There are some dark fruit aromatics as well. The flavor profile is initial off putting, moving to an almost vinous note, but revealing dark fruits. It does tame itself a bit, but It wasnt a good start. Theres a hint of cream, sweet bread, while the barrel treatment is fairly mild. This brew ends up a little muddied, not quite doing any particular thing well. I think the nose was the highlight. Anyway - it was a decent attempt overall as a brew but I was hoping for more here. illiniphil (148) - Nashotah, Illinois, USA - NOV 15, 2013
Pours a reddish brown with minimal light tan head. Flavors are dark cherry, molasses and bourbon. Very sweet. It's close to being a great dopplebock - I love the barrel aging. But if it could be just a little less sweet. Must be enjoyed at the proper serving temp.

Served in taster. Dark brown with mininmale head. Smells of sweet cherry and bourbon. Very sweet with a spicy undertone. Finishes smooth. Not really my style but not bad either. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - AUG 18, 2013
Bottle:   Dirty caramel, reddish hues, thick, a bit brownish even, with a moderate frothy light beige head, RobertDale (6906) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - JUL 30, 2013
decent lacing.   Soft caramel and even softer bourbon on the nose.   Not as sweet on the tongue.   Seems bready
on the tongue, slightly sweet, bourbon seems to have faded.   Faint caramel and perhaps vanilla.   Not heavy at
all, in fact seems a touch thin.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but leaning towards thin.   Semi-sweet bready
finish, and thats about it.   Light bourbon to start, after that it seemed like a normal watery doppelbock.
On tap at the brewpub. Comes dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and bourbon. Taste is malt, bourbon, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, and oak. Very nice.

(bottle) Pours a semi-clear reddish-brown color with quickly dissipating off-white head that leaves a lingering film. The aroma leaves no doubt about the whereabouts of this beer prior to bottling, as it’s an all-out olfactory assault of bourbon on the nostrils. This is a good thing. Smells of vanilla, butterscotch, oak, and candied cherries are prominently displayed here. Some toffee like scents emerge as well, and I think these and the cherries are the remnants of the base beer which struggle to break through the bourbon barrier. Sour cream and onion potato chips with warming. Tastes of rich toffee, vanilla, stewed plum, along with a lingering note of toasty malt and oak are all that’s composed in the flavor, but it’s all that is needed. Faint glimmer of heat which is odd considering the ABV, but perhaps I’m conditioned by something tasting this bourbony to have some sting associated with it. Mouthfeel is medium and carb is perfect. Overall I was really impressed by this, and if it weren’t priced so highly, I’d drink this regularly. Tmoney99 (15035) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 24, 2013
Draft. Poured dark brown color with a moderate light brown head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Good caramel toasted malt and bourbon barrel aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and flat carbonation. Good well balanced woody dark sweet flavor with a moderate smooth sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid doppelbock. Taster on tap at Lackman. Clear darker red kind of brownish door. Minimal off-white head - just a thin ring around the edge. No lace. Nice vanilla, woody bourbon barrel nose. Hint of spice, dark fruit in the aroma. Some caramel, toffee, butterscotch in the flavor, some earthiness, very tasty and complex. Light to moderate sweet taste, moderate bitter too, light bourbon type alcohol. Hint of chocolate. Bigger body. Lighter, lightly soft carbonation, More dry. Tasty, complex bourbon barrel ale. peteinSD (1468) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 31, 2013
Bottle from Neal - thanks! Murky brown pour with a slick of tan foam. Aroma is sweet bourbon with vanilla and minor coconut over raisin and sweet malt. Taste is thin bourbon up front followed by some raisin and malt sweetness before thin bourbon returns. Thin mouthfeel. Somewhat disjointed in the flavor but I like the relatively low ABV and the aroma is nice. Bacterial (3060) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - APR 29, 2013
Light brown pour. Wax top that really made you work for this beer! Slight white head. Big bourbon and caramel nose. On the thin side, but really brings the bourbon flavor to the forefront with an easy drinking malty dopplebock. Nice!
