12 ounce bottle from Woodman’s in Janesville, WI, consumed a few minutes out of the fridge in a pint glass. Dark, vaguely hazy amber-gold with a billowy lasting off-white head...resinous aroma, a touch of caramel, somewhat musty - not quite skunky but definitely a bit aged in a way that doesn’t work for me though some might find it more tolerable in an "English" pale; no date on the bottle (of course) but this store has lots of turnover and it was refrigerated...hmm...body is moderately hoppy/bitter throughout, edging towards strongly so by the finish, only light sweetness with that woody, husky character appropriate to the English style; also a fair bit of dry yeast character throughout though I don’t believe this is bottle conditioned, anyway it comes across...average fullness of body, average to perhaps slightly stronger carbonation. Ehh, big "OK" when all is said and done.

Amber pour. Nose of caramel malt and rustic pine and citrus Flavor is pale malt, mild toasted malt and grassy pine and citrus. Lingering mild bitterness. English-style pale. Good, but generic.

Rated from a brown pint bottle picked up at the local supermarket. Wow. Lots of floaties in this dark amber, nearly headless brew, but, since there’s no dating on the bottle (Shame, Shame), I consider this a fair rating. Actually, it smells pretty decent, soft floral and lighter zest scents over warm bread and cereal aromas. The flavor is much like the overall aroma with the addition of a mild rind-like bitterness. Abrupt finish. Obviously, this isn’t fresh and could give a much better impression if it were so. If someone should give me a fresh bottle, I’ll try it again.

onceblind (10320) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 2, 2014
Hazy golden with a foamy tight white head. Nose is semisweet and floral/grassy with a nice wee bitterness. The flavor has this odd tap water note about it toward the finish, but its not enough to detract from the overall taste. Grassy bitter beginning with a little touch of tangerine rind bitterness, a wee touch astringent, then gets clean and bright malty. Nothing special, but gets points for being classy and sippable.

Bad label, green-brown .5L Europint bottle. Foggy, dull brown-orange beer, clingy bone colored head. Odd aroma - reminds me of toasted sesame perhaps, or some of those Metamucil-style whole grain crackers - that suggests its savory and would go well with food. Sweetish up front, chalky flavor with hints of cocoa powder. Medium hopping. Biscuity mouthfeel. Moderately bitter finish with an amber ale aftertaste. Whole Foods, Tallahassee.

I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through word games. :)

PorterPounder (8226) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 12, 2013
Tallahassee, Fl - Whole Foods Market - pint bottle. Dark, murky orange pour with a sticky off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma has some light spicy notes, a touch of citrus. Flavor has a nice underlying subtle bitterness with some sweet cake mix notes, a touch of vanilla and some coriander spiciness. Mouthfeel is rich and full. Nice change of pace.

On nitro. Pours a dark golden color with big creamy off white head. Moderate hop aroma, grassy and slightly resiny. Malt forward flavor with some mild hop bitterness. Not a bad drinker.
