After the collapse of the Habsburg (Austro-Hungarian) Empire in 1918 at the end of World War I, Austria adopted and used the name the Republic of German-Austria (Deutschösterreich), in an attempt at union with Germany, but this was forbidden under the treaties the Treaty of Versailles and Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (1919). The name was changed to Austria (Österreich) and shortly afterwards The First Austrian Republic was established in 1919. In 1938 Nazi Germany annexed Austria in the Anschluss. This lasted until the end of World War II in 1945, after which Germany was occupied by the Allies and Austria’s former democratic constitution was restored. In 1955, the Austrian State Treaty re-established Austria as a sovereign state, ending the occupation. In the same year, the Austrian Parliament created the Declaration of Neutrality which declared that the Second Austrian Republic would become permanently neutral. klukas (348) - Rijeka, CROATIA - JUL 31, 2017

Bot, finally a chance to taste the notorious hirter dunkle. 11 oz bottle, how come those euroguys always try to rip us yankies off for an ounce? In my little sniffer this has a very mild malt nose. Nice and dark, looks like a dark american lager. Personality is a little more than a typical mild dark lager, has a tad of that baltic thang goin on here. After I get over the initial baltiness of it all it then settles down to stripped shucked attitude about it. In the background, I may detect a hair of smoke, but now I think I just imagined it. AH! I think I taste the soft mountain spring water used in the brewing which has been left to mature in a none GMO prolonged aging process, go figger. I’m liking these mild darker beers, so much more enjoyable than a stupid baltic, foreign imp stout porter, heheheh.
