COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Hirter Morchl is not just a unique brand – its production method also differs from that of other dark beers. The beer’s seductive color is due to the dark brewing malt, hops and caramel malt, while its smooth taste comes from the soft mountain spring water used in the brewing process. Left to mature in a prolonged aging process, it’s GMO-free, non-pasteurized and completely natural. Beer lovers will appreciate its dry maltiness on the palate and pleasantly rounded, faintly bitter finish. 12.8°

What is nice about this beer is that it is readily available almost anywhere in Austria. Super easy to drink and sweet. Clear brownish red with a medium beige lasting lacy head. Smells of roast, dark malt, caramel and herbal hops. Medium oily body with soft carbonation. Nice taste of nut, dark malt with caramel sweetness and a bit of a roast bitter finish. Elements of raisins and dark fruit. A excellent Dunkel

From a 500 ml. euro brown bottle with a best before date, 20.12.06, on the back label. Poured a deep Coke Cola brown with a small off-white/beige head that settled into a thin lacing. Aromas of toasted grains and roasted coffee malts with a light fruitiness. Moderate carbonation and a crisp, slick and smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. Very tasty, a sweet caramel toffee and a roasted coffee, a soft fruitiness, a light spiciness from the hops, a little caramelized sugary towards the end and a sweet roasted malty finish. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this up, but this dunkel lager was flavorful and well balanced, quite quaffable.

0.5 l bottle. Clear dark brown in colour with a medium sized and creamy beige head, which laces. Malty nose and aroma with caramel, brown bread and some grassy hops in the background, slick texture. Medium dry, toasty and mild spicy finish. Nice, harmonic.

UPDATED: JUN 18, 2017 Clear dark brown color, small off-white head. Aroma is mostly roasted malts. Thin body, a bit creamy. Soft carbonation. Not bad, but I thin score of 99 in style is a little bit too much.

Bottle. Strong nose of licorice and soy sauce which initially dominates. The flavour mellows once it warmed up and had chocolate, licorice, soy, dark fruits and pudding. Sweet mouthfeel. A sort of love-hate relationship with this one. It really opened up and changed in the glass. Interesting beer.
