UPDATED: AUG 18, 2012 Carbonated dark caramel colour with a nice red tint and a lasting creamy beige head. Smells of a refreshing orange and chocolate with yeast and malt. Medium crisp smooth body.. Tastes of light Chocolate, malt then sour feel (orange), with some hoppy nutty finish. The flip from sweet to sour is really impressive. This is one cracking ale. This is quite astonishing. Fantastic aroma of toffee tinged with that aromatic , almost oak aged hints. Flavour is big, bold and powerfully bitter. Like Stone Arrogant Bastard but without the strength.

Bottle from BrewDog website. A very dark red-brown beer with rich caramel, notes of malt, raisins, red fruit and earthy hops on the finish. Brentv (686) - Portland, Oregon, USA - FEB 23, 2014
From a bottle in Tokyo, pours dark amber chestnut color with a slight white head. Aroma of fruit and toffee. Taste is fruit, toffee, very slightly bitter, and slightly bitter on the finish, too. Almost no lacing. Medium mouthfeel, smooth, and nice carbonation. A very nice beer and a pleasure to drink. Worth seeking out again. bartlebier (4217) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - NOV 19, 2015
33cl bb04/2016, konichidiosynkrasie for the excellent extrae. - Luminous auburn pour, luxurious polished furniture. Suave honeyed Maris Otter, tea-dunked madeleine. More black tealeaf bitterness in taste, getting more resinous plus sweet like candied orange pith. Love the cushioned sweet malt profile here against the UK style hop aromatics, with an almost, yes, umami savouriness coming in. Assertive lingering bitterness rounding off this intensely enjoyable Nippon-ESB with an austere bite.

This is very good beer I’ve ever met. Especially, flavor of malt is great!! KyotoLefty (10810) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 22, 2008
UPDATED: JUN 12, 2012 I have had this beer a couple times on tap and to tell the truth it was always disappointing. It’s better from the bottle, and this rating is of one that was cellared for 7 months, and was much better than usual.
Darkish amber. Strong hops and fruit aroma. Good malt in the as well. Only slightly sweet, some cookies and maybe chocolate and great caramel, cherries and other dark fruits. Good hops that linger on in the finish with the malt. Excellently balanced with head on barley and hops. Truly exceptional. The aged version was extra mellow and smooth.
