Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors.

The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil.

Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate.

The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base.

Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.

Hop: Chinook, Kent Golding
Malt: Pale, Crystal, Black, Chocolate
Others: Roasted Barley, Coffee beans
SRM: 100

Bottle consumed Oct 2012, brought back from trip to Japan in April 2011. Accidental aging (in back of beer cupboard) seemed to have brought out vinous notes in it, almost a hint of barrel-aging character. The coffee was muted on the nose, but it was still there subtly in its full-bodied rich roasty flavour – not as much perhaps as a younger version of the beer, but I savoured the increased structure that had come through with time, and the subtle blending of roast malt, coffee, sweetness, wine and oakey tones.

33cl bottle. Dark brown. Aroma is roasty, with caramel maltiness and coffee. The flavor is quite heavy on the coffee, aftertaste is like having bubbly coffee. Astringent and rather light mouthfeel. A little one-note, but solid.

Darkest brown with medium brown head. Aroma is chocolate, dried cocoa, bell peppers, a hint of fish. Taste is dry coffe, a bit mild apple sourness and soy sauce. Medium drinkable and not entirely smooth. Good. A bit too dry for me.

Bottle, thanks for bringing rating #8000 Jan! Black, creamy brown head. Light oxidized coffee aroma, strong roasted, soy sauce, fruits. Medium full, mellow body. Light chili/spice entry, licorice, dark chocolate, great coffee profile on the palate. Dry coffee finish. Really deserves the Espresso on the label.

Bottle, jonas' 8k, many thanks jfb! Opaque brown color with beige head. Aroma is super nice espresso ground, a touch green bell peppers, chocolate, roast. Taste is espresso ground, chocolate, a touch liquorice, umami. Lots of espresso in the finish. High carbonation. Awesome!
