A dose of fresh ginger roots added to the brewkettle creates an intriguing mix of ginger, malt-sweetness , and citruslike aromas and flavors Hoppy dryness is very subdued with ginger-sweet-spicey notes dominating throughout to the very finish.

Bottle, small stable creamy head, clear copper color, aroma of ginger spice caramel and some candy, flavor of caramel and ginger with a coarse grapefruit bitterness. The base beer is much too malty and heavy doesnt blend with the ginger and spice. Not a good beer.

rand (1490) - SWITZERLAND - MAR 20, 2016
Bottle 11,2 fl.oz from Bier-Bienne (CH). Reddish brown with a huge ochre foam. Appetizing perfumes of malt, caramel, ginger. Just like the taste, syrupy, unctuous, powerful with candied ginger, spices, toffy-honey and earthy-citrusy hop. A little soda like but betrayer.

Unexpectedly malty, sweet, ginger spiced aroma with a rich, almost honey-like quality. Clear with a darker than expected reddish-brown hue and yellowish head. Particularly nice colour. Very, rounded flavour balancing soft, yet rich malt with light spice, masking the alcohol very well. Slight banana coming through also which complements toffee flavours produced by the malt. The spice isnt very obviously ginger though, its more just sort of general spice which doesnt give the clean effect Im really looking for. Smooth and soft texture with a light, fuzzy carbonation. I wouldve expected the carbonation to be a bit higher and crisper and whilst I normally love softness in a beer, I think the flavours here mightve benefited from a crisper, harder feel. Overall though a great beer to experience. It isnt the refreshing type of ginger beer which I was kind of expecting and is instead much thicker and chewier. It has its place and is certainly well-made but the general spice addition flavour doesnt tend to go down so well with me as I sense it as a bit artificial. Perhaps it is the particular preparation of ginger doing this but as a spiced beer in its own right, its still very enjoyable.

UXO (1591) - CANADA - FEB 15, 2016
Appearance: cloudy medium amber with one finger of medium dense light beige head, good retention and patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: caramel malt, citrus, mild ginger, mild mixed spices. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, mild bitter and lightly spicy finish. (3/5) I just realized what this reminds me of: pumpkin beer. Oh, and American Strong Ale. I mean, yeah, I get the ginger - eventually - but it takes a seat right at the very back of this bus. This is nothing like your typical Jamaican-style ginger beers. In fact, it sort of reminds me of Arrogant Bastard. With a shot of pumpkin spice. (13/20)
