This Red Rice Ale was brewed with special red rice which had been cultured in ancient times in Japan. Please enjoy the complex taste and beautiful natural color. The ale has complex Sake like flavours with a hint of strawberry in the nose and palate.

THOUGHTS: Complex, but in a fairly subtle way. I guess what Im trying to say is that it had a lot of complexity for a beer that was full of lighter flavors that arent necessarily all that complex. Hid alcohol fairly well among such light flavors. I was surprised that it was quite sour. Great balance with sweetness, sourness and acidity. But complex doesnt always mean great. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, orangey gold with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had light cereal; moderate fruity, dusty and musty yeast; pear; peach, pineapple; a little flora; lemon; lemon rind; apricot, and slightly sour fruit. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, sour and acidic, and slightly bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately sour and acidic with a surprisingly long duration for all the the light flavors. There was light fruits, light citrus, pear, peach, green grape, lemon, apricot, maybe a little pineapple, a little citrus rind, pineapple near the edge where it is bitter; yeast; sour fruit; a little honey; and duty and musty yeast. The light to medium and dry body was made to feel even lighter by fizzy carbonation and a dry and slightly alcoholic finish.

330ml bottle. Pours hazy pinkish red, medium sized white head stays. Aroma is fruity, berries, banana, caramelly malt, vegetables. Taste is sweet, rice, malty, some tart, red berries, wild strawberry. Dry finish. Medium bodied, average carbo, alco well covered. Different, not bad at all.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Slightly hazy red, fast diminishing head. The aroma is vague and unconvincing - boiled fruit, traces of alcohol and something cheesy. The taste is close to that of an over-attenuated strong amber lager - vague maltiness, harsh boozy notes and unpleasant bitterness. I prefer rice as food.

Pours dark reddish orange with quick, white foam. Sweet, caramel malt nose with some notes of wheat (?). Medium body with active fizz. The malt / rice combination gives it an unusual sweetness, perhaps strawberry as the description suggests. The yeast comes out as it warms. It ends up on the ale end of the spectrum. Rich, with a slightly sour finish.

Pours deep amber with thick white head. Nose is toasted malts and candi. Aromas are toasted malts, red fruits, wooden notes. Average carbonation, medium body. Medium bitter finish. Very well balanced and pleasant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Being a japanese red rice ale I bought it expecting something quite original, which for the price, you can at least expect... However theres nothing particularly outstanding about it. That being said, its a really enjoyable beer with some red fruit notes and a pleasant taste. The texture and carbonation are just on point and the label design is beautiful, so all adds up for a perfectly fine beer albeit not that special.

Perfectly fine red ale from Japan that could be from absolutely anywhere. Rice is promised but never materialises, although thats probably for the best. Very drinkable for 7% and surprisingly bland

Bottle. Pours sort of dark red Amber and medium opaque with a thin white foam subsiding average. Scent is sort of interesting sugary red ale properties. Nothing obscure and yet so mature and clean. Taste is gorgeous consistent flavors of red ale, rose, orange zest, and cinnamon. Little bit sticky. Great.
