Beautiful redish color, faint yeast smell but almost non detectable, an explosion of tastes at first.
Tastes somewhat like Gauloise Brune. And it's hard to explain, but it tastes very red, in a sense, maybe like a red ale. Also a deep yeast taste. Maybe a bit one dimensional once you get beyond the first sip, but a good dimension to be in.
citrus, some spice, amber, medium sweetness, some bitterness but not unpleasant, OK finish, sometimes fruity flowering red aftertaste. CraftyHare (131) - Adelaide, AUSTRALIA - NOV 21, 2017
330ml bottle pours dark brown with foamy beige head. Aromas of stone fruit, caramel malt, marzipan and spices. Tastes of brown sugar, toffee, molasses, liquorice, cherry, pear, raisins, bready yeast, pepper, cloves and alcohol. Syrupy mouthfeel. Long sweet finish with residual spice and some herbal characters. Pretty nicely balanced Belgian strong ale with strong dark fruit characters. Looking forward to the next one. The Verboden Vrucht (Forbidden Fruit) is one of a kind. It is traditionally brewed with a mysterious blend of dark malts and flavored with spices. It underwent a slow second fermentation in the bottle so it matures into a delicious tasting beer with a complex flavor and a wonderful flavor balance between sweet and dry. Keep up this beer in a dark place and pour it at 5-6°C. Flavored with spices.
