UPDATED: JUN 9, 2005 a mes rate: ok we have all tried this one. it was what got me started and still holds a special place in my heart. i am not going to waste time talking about citrus and vanilla as you have all heard that before too. not what it was when i first tried it some years ago now. i am not going for all this frosted glass, slice of lime and herbs crap either. smacks a bit of interbrew these days but still hits the spot and if the pumps are looked after well still a good beer garden scoop for a sunny day

Cloudy light blonde in color. Moderately aromatic, full of fruit and spice, giving a scent of curacao and coriander, along with a light hint of hay. Flavor is light and airy, coating with a butter toffee blanket and loaded with light spice; coriander and curacao. A pleasant, yet unexciting witbier. Boy I wish I could have tried this 20 years ago.

Draught @ Papago

A funny thing happened to me the other night, I actually drank two glasses of Hefe Weizen and a Witbier all in one setting, not that they are bad, its just they are some of my least favorite sub-styles, even in the rapidly approaching Arizona summer. The beers I had were a Hacker-Pschorr, Weihenstephaner and the object of this review a Hoegaarden Wit.

The beer fresh from the tap is a beclouded yellowish-white with a monstrous white creamy head that lingers for a long time before dissipating, and the residual lace forms a tight screen to obfuscate the glass. Nose is spicy, hints of cloves and coriander, sweet malt and a slight citrus like tartness, start is lightly sweet with a mild grain presence and the top light in feel. Finish is stinging in its acidity with the hops light and pleasing, a real refreshing change of pace for this lover of strong Belgian Ales, very dry aftertaste finishes off this excellent beer, I wonder if my palate is changing once again?

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2006 (Bottle 25 cl) Very pale, almost milky white appearance. Lght in body but incredibly fresh and quenching with its perfect balance between the slightly sour notes from both the wheat and the orange peel and the perfumy coriander. On a hot summers day its hard to find a more refreshing beer. Seems to have lost a bit of character in recent years. 160793

(bottle) Hazy yellow colour with a small fizzy white head. Aroma of orange peel. Initially sparkling, high carbonated malty, yeasty taste with a smooth fruity aftertaste with some coriander spice and honey notes. Refreshing.

A very tasty witbier, but not my favorite style. Still a little boring. Im not a fan of beers that need fruit served with them to encourage flavor.

Tap: hazy, yeasty aroma and flavour. Nice white head, perfect on a hot sunny day with lemon.
