3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

Unclear medium to dark orange colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy yeasty, riped fruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, yeasty, madeira, orange - mandarin, prune. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
orange pour. smooth for the style & strength, even with a slight astringency. odd mix of yeast, fruit (pitted lighter fruits) bread vanilla and nuts, with a slight sour twang. Good, but too expensive for the score. Emeister84 (2505) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAY 21, 2016
Aromas of short bread, vanilla, hints at coconut, hints of lemon. Hazy orange with a fully lasting white head. Some sweetness, white cake flavors, apple, red berry, grapey, yeasty. Medium bodied, smooth, alcohol is dangerously hidden. kraddel (8349) - Antwerp, BELGIUM - APR 2, 2016
Bottle purchased at the releasedate ( back in the days) cellared since than, and currently my last version. Pours clear, yet dark amber. Small white head ( almost none, and gone in seconds ) Smell is earthy, and oak, somewhat metallic. Taste is bitter ( how ??? ) and has a slight madeira note, but not so much as you’d expect. it feels more like an aged beer , but a bitter one. The aftertaste contains more madeira, and all-and-all, it’s quite balanced , to my surprise. High carbo, rather thin body. OK , and could pass a tasting as an aged blonde beer, of good quality ! 2014 vintage Belgian Blond Ale aged in Madeira Barrels. It’s tough to keep track of what this brewery is doing in terms of picking a listing, but it’s usually worth the mental anguish. One of 1452 bottles. Poured into a snifter.
3.25 A: Murky apple cider color. About one finger of frothy off-white head formed and fell soon after without leaving behind lacing.
4.0 S: The nose on this isn’t overpowering, but it sure has a lot of complexity. It opens with an almond nuttiness followed by a unsweetened toffee and caramel. Brown sugar and candied peaches then apple pie. Phenolic spiciness from the base beer with a light peppery edge to it. Finish it off with a vinous grape aroma. Despite the murkiness of the brew, there isn’t a lot of yeastiness. Rather, it’s quite clean with a tilt toward the sweeter side of the spectrum.
3.75 T: The barrel comes out much stronger in the taste. The madeira contributes an almond liqueur type flavor with sweet syrupy caramel. Lots of vanilla with woody undertones. NondeScript light fruits. Tart apple and sugary pie crust. Peppery spiciness from the yeast. Finishes with a lemony tanginess.
4.0 M: Heavier medium to heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Rich and almost syrupy on the tongue. The sweetness accumulates amylase. Light spritziness with a warming finish.
4.0 D: This delivers in mirroring the barrel it was raised in. This drinks like a dessert wine. It’s rich and robust, had great depth, and works best when sipped. It’s been years since I first stumbled upon this brewery and it’s barrel work and I’m glad to be back involved.

Bottle, 75cl. An unclear one, pale amber in color and with a small, dense, off-white head. The aroma is rather sweetish, quite fruity and with peaches, white sugar, some faint spiced notes and a touch of oranges and banana. Herbal notes and some resiny hints. It’s full-bodied, sweet and pleasantly carbonated. White sugar, peaches, generic fruityness, orange zest and ripe banana. Some vinous, tannin-ish hints. Lasting sweet, fruity finish with tannins and vinous notes. Too sweetish for me, but nice anyway. The wine added some goodyness. 150718 Meilby (11517) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUL 18, 2015
