On tap at Black Sheep Alehouse in Mineola..clear orange pour with thin white head..aroma of sour cherries,assorted spices,yeast..taste of sour cherries, wheat,spices..more carbonated than I thought but not bad..my first sour so need to try a few more.
Caged and corked bottle 37.5cl. Murky brownish amber, no head, no lacing; aroma vinegar, unripe fruit, smoke (also retronasal); taste sweet and sour, sugary; not good, didn’t finish this...

Bottle, #h-J16, 23/06/16. Pours a hale orange with a decent, off-white head. Aroma is sour, caramel, slight sweet, slight ethanol, slight tar. Taste is sour, some tar, slight peat. Bottle shared. Pours very hazy orange brown with no head. Aroma of brutal smoke, Elastoplast, garbage, ahhhh this is horrible. Flavour is moderate sweet with a light sourness. Corked bottle. Brown color, no head. Caramel, berries, vinous notes and charcoal in the aroma and flavor. No carbon whatsoever, totally flat. Smoke and some apple sourness. Not so good.

Beer commemorating the great fire of Leuven during World War I, and it can be called a cruel twist of irony that the brewery itself had to suffer a fire meanwhile. Geuze bottle with cork, popping out with a bang, but no gushing. Rocky, frothy, egg-white head, hazy golden blonde colour with ochre hue. Aroma has a lot of fruit and tartness: gooseberries, redcurrant, starfruit, wine vinegar, dried apricot, white grape, sherry, yoghurt, some wood, peat and a light but unmistakable smoky touch from smoked malt. Strangely, I do not get a lot of peat like many other raters here and the nose does not really put me off, perhaps a different batch, but then the tasting circumstances were far from ideal. Very estery, rich fruity onset with light acidity, paired with a more subdued, drying tartness as the palate proceeds; juicy pale malt sweetishness overlies with a smoky hint in the finish, but not excessively so; caramelly touch and more drying sourishness in the finish than hoppy bitterness (which is a good thing in this case), along with a retronasal peat impression. Sour ale not unlike Zure Van Tildonk, with the smokiness adding a bit of complexity. Interesting and still more or less enjoyable for me, though I did not fall in love with it. Interesting to see how opinions are strongly divided here, by the way - but the challenge of being in favour of it or strongly against it did not really hit me this time, apparently. Bottle @ Home. Pours slighty hazy amber, no head, light lacing. Aroma of light sourness, applejuice, cider, heavy peat, wood. Flavor is light sweet, light sour, sweetness, sugar, oak, apples, cider, heavy peat, smoke, whisky. Medium body, flat carbonation, light sour and very peated smoke finish. Unusual and not very harmonic beer. 170415
