COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Nice bread/malt/caramel aroma. Flavor is fruity, sweet, and spicy, like carrot cake with a caramel topping. Flavorful and really easy to drink.

10/2/11. 12oz bottle. Clear brown pour with a small khaki head that fades but laces a tiny bit. Stylistic aroma of caramel and bread with a sweet flavor of caramel and biscuits with a touch of metal. Meh, but could be worse.

Had this at Oktoberfest in Denver. Pours a nice dark brown with a good malty aroma. Kind of run of the mill dunkel but tasty.

Bottle at Minneapolis Beer Fest. Brown/copper pour, small white head. Aroma and taste of caramel, malt, and just a touch of bitter hops. A little spice in here too.

This is a very fine dunkel! Pours a rich, dark brown body with a hearty frothy head that stays with the brew a long time. Hints of roasted malt and caramel are both smelt and tasted; followed up with a light, crisp hit of bitter hops that’s just right!

Tap at hofbrauhaus munich. Deep brown red with off white head. Malty slightly fruity aroma. Sweet malty taste, easy going. Very refreshing after a long day of walking. Doesn’t finish very well, bit sticky

Copper color with hints of ruby red. Sweet malts in the nose with a touch of toffee and subtle hops. Big toasted bread flavor with a caramel like sweetness. Munich malts dominate with a mild hop presence at the end. Semi dry finish.

0.5L bottle, pours clear mahogany brown with a stable brownish head. Strong nose of German fennel spiced bread. Spicy taste, full and not bland. Aroma of spices, toasted malts and black bread, tasty. Sweet taste with a light bitter finish. Light texture, medium bodied, moderate carbonation, smooth and easy to drink. I suppose this will be perfect with pretzels and other Bavarian bakery. Another nice surprise from HB!
