COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Draught. Low fluffy off-white lasting head. Clear dark brown body. Weak malty caramel aroma. Roasted malt caramel flavor, pretty sweet with little hops bitterness. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste.

Bottle. Light brown with an inch of off white head that fades a bit. Aroma of toasty caramel, chocolate, grass, mild spices. Modest sweetness with darkish caramel, quite assertive bitterness. Spicy finish. Solid and pleasant quaffer.

It’s taste is not as exceptional and speaks it’s brand as other Hofbrauhaus variants but overall a pretty good Dunkel. A bit bitter, nice foam.

Deep brown with a creamy off white dead. Lots of caramel and toasty malts. Very distinct caramel flavours with some underlying burnt toast. Medium body with a slightly sweet finish. A nice beer.

Creamy beige head. Dark brown colour. Aroma is malty with caramel, dark fruits and light roasted notes. Flavor is malty too with dark fruits and light spicy and wooden tones, ending in a malty finish. Light to medium bodied.

Caramel malts on the nose with a slight spicy nutty aroma. Pours a dark amber. Caramel malts, with toasted bread and a very clean crisp flavor. Very nice.

Test vom 6.12.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche

This was enjoyed during the trip to München, and unfortunately no other information remains.
