COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

12oz bottle to tulip. Pours hazy dark ruby red, white creamy head. Aroma of brown sugar, raisin, caramel, toast. Taste of same. Dry bittersweet finish with berries and biscuit.

It is precisely what it’s supposed to be. Dark copper color with slowly rising carbonation and some semblance of a slightly off white head if poured correctly. Very caramelly on the nose with a generous touch of brioche or other such thick bread as that. Not much bitterness which is fine for this style and very pleasant, clean-cut, and drinkable. Light-medium bodied with dull carbonation. Aftertaste is cut abruptly short but will have you reaching for more. I very much enjoyed it.

Tap @ Bavarian bier cafe, Sydney. Muddy brown, minimal off white head. Strong caramel malts and a little sweet. Good with fatty, salty pork knuckle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From Hipercor. In Teku glass. Reading CPPHTP10 Ch16. Very drinkable, but have gone up my head more quickly than expected, not sure why as its ABV is pretty low

Pours a gorgeous dark garnet with a moderate off white froth on top. Aroma is sweet caramel and malt with some small hop presence and slight spice. Taste is smooth and moderate body, sweet caramel with low hop bitterness and a small spice that comes in at the end.

LCBO shelf filler. Malty, with a touch of an edge. So-so drinkability. Medium brown colour. OK.
