COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Strong caramel, malty toffee like flavor and aroma. No hop flavors present, good example.

Best session beer of all time. IT is darker in color, but light in flavor, with just enough sweetness. The ultimate beer to session on a hot summer day.

Best dark lager I’ve ever tasted after U Fleku. Drank a Mass at Hofbraeuhaus in Munich. It was unforgettable. This seems to be one of those beers that you have to drink at the source. It really loses a lot of character in transportation, and the ones I’ve had in America just didnt taste like they did at the source. Its much fresher and has a much more refined and delicate character in Munich.

I’ve only had this from the tab at their home office. I wish I could find it here in the states. Their pilsner travels well. I suspect this one would too.

Appearance was clear root beerish with tan 3 finger lasting head with lacing. Aroma sweet bananas hints of biscuity caarmel, bready yeasts.Taste was sweet toast roasty malts.Mouthfeel was creamy carbonation with balanced body with hints of pine at a long finish, alcohol warmth at end. Great dunkel, would be better without the piney finish...

Dobry tradycyjny Monachijski Dunkel. Swietna i gesta piana, i trwala niesamowicie dlugo. Odcien i kolor typowy dla stylu ciemnobursztynowy kolor z bordowymi refleksami. W smaku karmelowe slodowe na koncu lekka goryczkowa koncowka

A very pleasant, smooth dark lager! Subtle notes of chocolate, fig, caramel, and even some coffee. Noticeable but subdue hops. This is definitely an Octoberfest staple for those liking dark seasonal beers. For those that hardly drink a darker beer or not sure if they will like one this one is a great starting point! Recommended!

Clear dark mahogany pour with a large beige head and great retention. Good lacing. Smooth and flat mouthfeel. Light sweet toffee and caramel malt flavor. Not smoky.
