COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark beer existed in Bavaria long before light beer. This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbräuhaus when it was founded. Today, when beer-lovers all over the world talk about dark beer, they usually mean a Munich style beer. Today, Hofbräu Dunkel - the archetypal Bavarian beer - is still as popular as ever. With its alcoholic content of around 5.5% volume and its spicy taste, it’s a refreshing beer that suits all kinds of occasion. A beer in the traditional Munich style!

Clear dark mahogany pour with a large beige head and great retention. Good lacing. Smooth and flat mouthfeel. Light sweet toffee and caramel malt flavor. Not smoky.

A very rich dark brew with many flavors that just messed and a great creamy feel to it, great beer one of my favorites

Tap. Exceptional beer. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, and liquorice. Taste was sweet, with long length. Palate was velvety, with a thin-to-medium body. Brown, with a frothy white head.

An easy drinking light beer. Nothing crazy or fancy but it has it’s own special characteristics and flavors. I would buy again. It’s okay. Julie does NOT like this one...

Deep clear mahogany brown. Off white head that starts about a half in or so and levels to film like cover. The spicy caramel malt aroma is subtle. Sweet rich toasted on the tongue. Has a spicy Earth like quality. Has a pleasantly and sweet after taste. Leaves me wanting more and I do. I’d certainly recommend this one.

Tried it on tap at HB Munich in Summer 2015. My wife and I were pleasantly impressed. A bit too sweet for the godson. Although, they enjoyed the pretzel. lol

A fair palate. Wintery and some spice. Might not buy again. Have to get deal on it really low.

Now this is an impressive beer. Beautiful, rich, dark red-brown colour. Sizeable head. Possibly just the tiniest bit too thin, but this does not detract too much overall. Long, smooth caramel flavouring, with the slightest hints of coffee and chocolate. A very good beer.

Presentation: It was poured from a green 11.2oz bottle into a Pilsener glass. The bottle has no freshness date or any info other than the style. Appearance: Its body has a deep burnt coppery color with lighter amber highlights and good clarity. The pour produces a tall, foamy, light tan head with a mix of small tightly packed bubbles and bigger soapy quick fading bubbles. The settles down to a thin cap of tiny bubbles that makes very nice lacing on the glass. Smell: The nose is full and rich. There are solid notes of caramel and bready maltiness followed up by some floral/mineral like German and Czech noble hops. Taste/Palate: As in the aroma the flavor has nice caramel/bready maltiness and noble spicy/floral hops in good balance with a slight edge to the malt. In the finish it quickly fades to dryer mellow hop bitterness. The body has a medium to full body with a smooth, not to thick/not to thin, texture and carbonation. Notes: This is another all-around solid beer with good balance and drinkability.

Drank from a twelve ounce bottle. Definitely one of my favorite goto beers over the years. Amazing aromas of malts. Nice sweet flavor.
