From a green bottle, which immediately causes concern - Clear reddish brown, with virtually no head. Nice earthy smell, with some dark bread and rum notes. Flavor is similiar, but mixed with some fruity notes. Surprisingly rough, bitter finish, which is welcome. gsmitty80 (2130) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 19, 2008
Ah drink these out of a liter mug down at the black squirrel in DC. Traditional German dunkel with a great pour, head and aroma. Will be drinking many more of these in the future. SHIG (4965) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - AUG 30, 2008

Draft at Hofbrau Beer Garden in Panama City Beach. Brown in the glass with a tan head that had a thin layer lasting and good lace. Sweet malts in the aroma with a backing of nut and caramel. The flavor is slightly lighter with sweet malts and a hint of bitterness. Light to medium body with a sweet malt aftertaste. cbkschubert (2901) - BFE, Arizona, USA - FEB 9, 2009
12 oz. bottle courtesy of FlacoAlto - Pours a clear brown color with deep red edges and sports a one finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is light toasted caramel malt with a hint of herbal hops. Flavor is much of the same with the addition of some pronounced herbal flavors. A nice medium bodied beer. Thanks Sebastian.

(bottle) Clear, ruby amber colour with a big and tanned foamy head. Sweet and almost Bock-like toast-malty aroma with strong notes of caramel and a touch of dark bread an anise. Light-bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Dry toasty malt character with pronounced notes of caramel. Toasty and slightly hop bitter finish with wll-blended sweet malt. Decent Dunkel (21.II.09). ajolly2 (129) - USA - NOV 14, 2009
A little on the lighter side in the mouth, bordering "watery"; malty; pretty dry ending, not the best; the spicy flavor balances very nicely with the sweet caramel flavor to make for an enjoyably complex taste; nice dark amber appearance. I recommend it. gunnfryd (15490) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - DEC 1, 2009
on tap at the brauhaus. Brown colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted, malt, caramel. Flavour is sweet, roasted, malt, caramel. bitter finish. Medium to full body. Nice beer. jfb (6984) - GERMANY - FEB 13, 2010

UPDATED: APR 17, 2010 Bottle.
Reddish brown, moderate off-white head which diminishes fairly quickly.
Sweet bready malt with some caramel on the nose. The faintest hint of an aroma hop.
Sweet taste with a light-moderate bitterness which seems to last along with a toasted malt taste.
Medium body and a touch undercarbonated.
Nothing wrong here, but a bit conservative.
