By tradition, the first barrel of Maibock is tapped in the Hofbräuhaus in the last week of April, in time for the merry month of May. The success story of Munich’s oldest bock beer goes back as far as 1614. With its powerfully aromatic flavour and its alcoholic content of some 7.2% volume, Hofbräu Maibock marks one of the high points in the beer-lover’s calendar!

I am suprised at the relatively low score for this brew. Absolutely fantastic canvas for malt lovers everywhere. This stuff just screams munich brew. Nice color, flavor, aroma, and texture. A true showcase of maltsters. I should probably be a little more technical, but I am buzzed and this stuff is great.

Draught at the Hofbräu Munich. Tired maltiness in the aroma. Alcoholic taste and light sweetness. Thin body for a bock. Very nice appearance.

Tasty maibock, heavy caramel malt backed by a mild nutty undertone, slight apple esters rising from the yeast, leading to a moderately sweet, boozy finish. Modest hops add a pungent, slightly medicinal bitterness to the back end, yet the fade is smooth and sweet. Pretty orange pour gives up a fluffy white head, but the somewhat lackadaisical nose never matches the lovely malt core. Doesn’t matter. Tastes good.

Klar bärnstensfärgad l med ett gulvitt skum. Doft och smak av karamell, lätt blommighet och maltighet. Lätt alkoholsötma och en gräsig efterbeska.

Vielen Dank nach Bochum!
Clear amber body, small white head. Pleasant aroma of cranberries, rhubarb, candies, cherries...hut unfortunately hints of metal. Taste is neutral to sweet with slightly bitter finish. Wood, caramel, cherries, liqueur. Full body, high carbonation.
It has character of commercial brew, too neutral. What’s pitty.

Many thanks for this Top Beer To Kevnic2008. Piana sprora tresciwa kremowa i utrzymujaca sie prawie do konca degustacji. Kolor bursztynowy z jasniutkimi refleksami truskawkowej czerwieni. Zapach ciasta drozdzowego, w smaku slodowe ale subtelnie chmielnosc niewielka, alkohol lekko rozgrzewajacy. Porzadny jasny i Kozlaczek i sezonowy w dodatku. Polecam nie tylko w maju.

Bottle from trade with pivnizub, thanks Guenther! Bottle 0.5l. Clear, pale amber colored. AROMA- grainy, caramel, touch of bread, note of metal. FLAVOR- neutral, slightly bitter, again grains, bread and caramel, light, a bit harsh alcohol presence. Medium bodied, very attenuated.
Not bad, but not my style.

Bottle from Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is caramel, toffee, raisins, sweet herbal things, caramel apples. Taste is malty, caramel apples, raisins and gently moves to a grassy, herbal and slightly bitter finish. Amazing fruit, malt and herbal components blending together on this one...also bready and earthy, but not too dank, and very drinkable.

On tap at Tippler’s Tap 011016. There are plenty of German beers on tap around Brisbane at the moment with this one being left over from Tippler’s Tap’s Oktoberfest event the weekend before. Smooth and slightly malty with a nice long finish.

Aroma; fruits, plum, peel, marmalade, caramel, apple, leaves. Look; off white bighead, amber clear body. Taste; solid hops in the caramel malt liquid, apple note, herbs, abstract spices, sweets, honey - leading to a soft sweet finish, still with hops. Feel; good. Overall; good may-bock.
