The Munich Beer Festival, or Oktoberfest, is an event of superlatives - it’s the largest popular festival in the world, staging in the beer metropolis of Munich. Millions of visitors from all over the world flock along every year to enjoy its very special atmosphere. For this occasion, Hofbräu brews a rich, full-bodied beer which goes down ideally with traditional Bavarian cuisine. With its deliciously bitter taste and alcoholic content of 6.3% volume, Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier is as special as the Beer Festival itself.

DrnkMcDermott's rating

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 2/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 12/20
DrnkMcDermott (3121) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - SEP 16, 2003
UPDATED: OCT 4, 2004 Draft. Pours very well, with a foamy German type head. Has a nice roasted malt aspect to it, which actually calls to mind a well-made Vienna lager. In other words, this is a pretty okay beer. The texture and mouthfeel come across like a standard American "dark beer," which can get in the way of one's enjoyment. 2004 rating: Color is light as a Hamm's these days, which can also detract. They keep making them lighter in germany to match the lowest common denominator in drinker preferences...

Fine Octberfest. Sweet and malt profile but everything is quality! A seasonal pleasure!

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2017 HB Oktoberfestbier  (500 ml)   Uma cerveja rica, encorpada, de baixa fermentação, com índice ideal de amargor e elevado teor alcoólico.

On tap at the Shroom. Clear yellow with a white head. Mainly malt flavors, bread, some grassy hops, citrus, touch of sweetness. Clean, lightly bitter finish. Very drinkable, good choice for fest quaffing.

Not a terrible beer, crisp clean refreshing taste. However, not much of an octoberfest. Hardly any of that malt and caramel taste that one would normally expect.

2015 BJCP Category: 4B Festbier

AROMA: Mostly pilsner malt with slight bready/doughy character. Not sweet, just malty. Low earthy hops. Clean fermentation. 7/12

APPEARANCE: Clear golden hue (2-3 SRM). Effervescent. Large white foam retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Generic pilsner malt dominates the palette, though it has little distinctive features. Slight raw dough or bready flavor; nothing toasty and certainly no confectionery sweetness. Hops are extremely low in both flavor and bitterness. Alcohol presence is a gentle warmth. Surprisingly clean aftertaste. Though more to spec than not, the taste is rather boring. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. More creamy than crisp. Smooth, but not refreshing. Surprisingly heavy at 6.3% ABV; not very robust considering the potency. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A fine, to-spec (mostly) German Festbier. Probably the weakest of the authentic brews. 7/10

12oz bottle. Pours clear pale yellow with a moderate white head. Aroma is spice, grain, grass, floral, bread, and honey. Taste is sweet; grass, grain, honey, and some metal. Light-medium body. Low carbonation. Crisp-ish.

voyageurmike (475) - Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 13, 2017
Bottle from Wegman's. Clear gold with low carbonation. Unpleasant aroma, corn taste, cloying sweet malt finish. One to avoid.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2017 Edizione 2017 molto equilibrata;la Marzen per eccellenza!!!! Piacevolmente luppolata e cremosa al punto giusto. Bevuta alla Spina del #tangoechet a Calvisano BS.

oobawa (1586) - Tennessee, USA - SEP 8, 2017
Unexpectedly sweet and rich, especially considering the Euro-skunk ugliness wafting up from the nose. Buttered caramel, honey, red apples and toast make up the front, while the back gains a floral noble hop bitterness. Creamy texture adds to the drinkability; if only the aroma wasn't so damn off-putting. Still, not a bad marzen.

I was not particularly fond of this one. Had a faint almost bitter smell that really put me off. I'm not getting another one any time soon ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
