Less alcohol but yet full in taste. The Pittsburgh Hofbräu premium lager has been brewed lighter in body and flavor to respond to the American taste. Similar to other light lagers but much fresher and more flavorful.

On tap at Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh on our way to RBSG. Pours a clear yellow, with a medium sized white head. Rivals the Premium Lager for “who can look more like water with a head”. Skunky and grainy on the nose, skunky and grainy in the mouth. Not good. Nasty bitterness on the finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a very clear golden color with a medium white head. A light grainy nose. A smooth flavor; somewhat watery, but fits in a nice grainy and sweet flavor. Very clean. Good. Very much like the Premium lager.

Sample at Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh. Pours clear yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is faint malt and noble hop. Flavor starts with crisp noble hop, then some malt steps in before a watery finish.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2014 Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a vibrant golden color with a large creamy white head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was sweetish and tangy with a bit of sour mash and faint perfumey hops. The flavor was nutty and bready with a crisp perfumey hop note. Medium length finish of nut, bread and perfume. Medium body. Ok.

This poured a plae yellow color with a big white head. Aroma was almost nonexistant but a little grassy. Flavor was mainly grassy with some surprising adjunct tastes as well. Not good.

Some sulfur on the aroma, otherwise smells a little like wet fresh cut grass. Has a mild hay flavor and I would say more hay or grass than the regular hofbrau lager. Good carbonation and easy to drink. Has better carbonation than the other beers on tap here. Not a bad session brew. Nice for a lager lover. Low alky makes many of these possible. Overall, like-able and friendly.

Draught at BrewPub: Aroma of pale malts, grains, and a hint of grass. Poured pale yellow in color with a small, white head that lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is slightly sweet. Tastes of grains and a little grass. Light body. Thin, watery texture. Average carbonation. Grassy finish. Not good.

On tap at hofbrau haus. Pours clear with a touch of yellow. Not much good on the nose. It’s a tad off-putting in it’s unidentifiableness. Not much on the tongue. Fizzy. Finishes clean. Pass!

On tap at the brewery. Light beany aroma with some honey and pilsner malt. Light hops. Light golden clear with whie lacing head. Light body with medium carbonation. Starts with light sweetness, tons of honey taste with even some beeswax. Light hop finish with a mild sweet after. OK light, sweet and smooth.
